"Well, don't act like you don't know where this is going." Laura says as I give her a confused expression.

"I don't feel like going out tonight," I look at my carpeted floor and continue, "Or this month, really."

She opens my bathroom door and holds out her hand as if inviting me into it.

"Change right now. And do your hair and makeup. You're going to get yourself a new man tonight."

"Lau, the love of my life just broke my heart. I'm not ready to love anyone else."

"Who said this was about love? Nobody has time for that."

I laugh. Only she could make me laugh in my most gloomy moments. I grab the dress and change, then do my makeup and throw my hair into a messy bun.

She looks at me from head to toe, and says, "I don't know how you can pull off a messy bun so well, but you do."

I laugh again and say, "Let's go."

"Are you here alone?" A bearded man with a comforting deep voice asks from behind me.

I turn and nod shyly. There's no way a man as attractive as him is talking to me. "Are you?" I ask.

He shakes his head and points to a woman with long brown hair and dark eyes. She's really pretty. But she's dancing with-

"I have to go." I suddenly say, turning away to find Laura so we can get out of here.

There's a yell of surprise that suddenly comes from behind me. I turn back around, the bearded man in front of me. Intrigued by the sudden commotion, I stand next to him and try to find the source.

I see Alex standing beside the man's girlfriend, a look of shock on his face as he holds his jaw.

And on the other side of him is Laura, a satisfied smile on her face.

"What was that for?" He says, not paying attention to the sudden silence of the room.

"That's what you get for breaking my best friend's heart. You never deserved her!" She shouts.

I smile so widely that a few people stare at me, wondering why I'm amused by the situation.

"Do you know him?" The attractive man asks.

I nod.

"Do you know her?"

I nod again. He puts the pieces together.

"He broke your heart, didn't he?"

I nod once more.

"Did he say he was in love with another woman?"

Tears fill my eyes. Those words were painfully familiar. I nod again, turning away from Laura and to the man's eyes.

They are a beautiful shade of blue.

"He's in love with my girlfriend! No wonder she's seemed so distant!" He suddenly becomes furious.

"So, my ex is in love with your girlfriend?" I ask.

He nods angrily. "And my now ex is in love with yours."

I open my mouth to say something, just as Laura finishes lecturing Alex. She walks over to me and smiles.

Laughing, I hug her.

"Thank you Laura. This is why you're my best friend."

"You don't know how long I've been waiting to do that. It was a pleasure."

I laugh again. She notices the tall man next to me and discreetly smiles.
"I'll meet up with you later, enjoy yourself, babe."

I nod and watch her walk away.

The man's hands come in contact with my waist. Startled, I turn around and face him.

In a deep, calming voice, he says, "I'm Simon."

We make eye contact as I say, "I'm Adele."

He grabs my hand. "Let's get out of here."
