Chapter 4

As the elevator doors slam shut in front of us, the man in the cubicle with us starts to speak,

"Hello, it is my pleasure and honor to welcome you to the Erudite faction, where inteligence and wit are valued above all else. Over the next few days you will be put through a series of rigorous tests to see if you are eligible for Erudite. Today, there are fifteen of you, by the end of the week, there will be thirteen. Those not capable of achieving a high enough score will be asked to leave the faction."

"What if we don't want to?"

The group turns to a boy in the corner, his dirty blonde hair covering one eye.

"Well," the man checks his name sheet,

"Well Jared, if you refuse to leave the premises you will be eliminated." The jovial atmosphere turns to ice as Jared's joking expression becomes one of defience as he looks up to the ceiling. I would've just apologized and looked down. Hell, I wouldn't have said anything in the first place. But then again, maybe that's just the Abnegation in me rearing its ugly head. Jared must be a Dauntless transfer, they're rare, almost as rare as Dauntless- Amity transfers. It feels like and eterinity before the steel doors open once again, and we walk out into our living space for the next week.

Chapter 5

"So I guess we're roommates then, nice to meet you, I'm Emily." I look at the girl next to me and shake her outheld hand. There was a, much to our leader's dismay, a rush along the corridor to get to the list showing who we will be staying with over the course of our initiation. I see my name next to 'Emily Martins'.

"Beatrice Prior." Emily thinks for a moment,

"Prior...you're, Caleb's sister right?"

"The one and only."

"I was in the same van as him, he didn't mention you." My heart sinks a little, why didn't he think to tell people about me? Two Abnegation transfers...and siblings? The only reason he wouldn't talk about me is, he didn't want to.

"He wouldn't," I laugh, "Not much of a talker, Caleb."

She rasies an eyebrow, then looks back at the paper.

"We're room 19 then,"

"Looks like it."

As we make our way to our door, Emily and I have some time to familiarise ourselves.  She is shocked when she hears I'm from Abnegation, everyone is. She's an Erudite, and as we talk the only though in my mind is,

She's competition.
