Chapter 6

"Beatrice? Beatrice,  Beatrice wake up, don't be late today."

I sit up, wipe the sleep out my eyes and look around. The grey painted walls lurch me awake. No, I can't be back here, I chose Erudite. My mother pulls back the grey covers, still speaking,

"I'm so excited for you, this is the first day of the rest of your life, a life spent helping others," I interrupt,

"What? What do you mean? What day is it?"

"Goodness Beatrice, it's the day after the Choosing Ceremony, your first day as a true Abnegation!"

The shill chime of the alarm clock wakens me from my dream, I look around and see Emily in the en suite opposite me, it was just a dream. Of course it was.

"You took your time, the clock went off three times already!" I jump out of bed,

"Why didn't you wake me up?"

There is a silence as I pull off my pajamas, in a corner of the room as not to  be seen, and open my suitcase to rip out my clothes only to find they're not there.

"Oh yeah, you have to wear this,"

Emily pulls a blue jumpsuit from the wardrobe,

"That?"

"God, I know right," Emily says, taking off her pyjamas, she obviously isn't as...body conscious as I am.

I pull on the blue jumpsuit,

"It's certainly...clingy,"

"Tell me about it." Emily says, pulling her blonde hair into a ponytail.

"How's big brother then?"

"You probably know about as much as I do," I mummer.

"Oh, cramping his style are you?"

"Caleb doesn't have style, he's Abnegation through and through."

"Except he chose Erudite," Emily says as we walk into the corridor.

"Im still getting over the fact that both of us did."

Why is Caleb acting so frosty, what exactly had I done, Caleb and I used to be so close, playing Candor in the living room, we cooked dinner together once. So what happened?

All thoughts are bannished from my head as Emily and I turn the corner into the elevator. On the third floor we are welcomed by a crowd of people in the same blue and black jumpsuits. A man on a podium has just begun to address us.

Chapter 7

"Good morning initiates, and  to those of you who transfered, welcome to your first day in Erudite. Today, is the first day of your testing. You will be split into groups of fifteen and set into different rooms to take the literal tests. You will be breifed on what exactly this is when you are in the rooms, I will assign each group a colour and this will allow to find your room."

He splits us into groups based on completly random objectives, which means any chance of seeing Caleb today are thrown out the window. I don't know anyone in my group, except Jared, the boy from the lift yesterday. As we walk down our corridor he tries to walk over to me but I notice him, panic and start talking to a candor girl next to me. She's incredibly boring, but at least an excuse not to talk to Jared, who would be even more full-frontal than Emily. I may be a Erudite now, but I was raised in Abnegation and some of that still lingers with me, old habits die hard and all that. As we turn the corner into the black door assigned to our group, the nerves in my stomach increase tenfold. We file in and I find the desk with my name on it. I look next to me, Jared looks back, just my luck. A bird-like woman walks into the room and speaks to us.

"Welcome, to the first test."
