Your POV

My mother's laughter filled my ears. I smiled at it. It sounded like a soft coral rattle along with a bit of a sea bell from what I've heard from the surface from boats. The sound of her voice relaxed me, knowing I was away from my father. She was here to keep my safe from harm. This was one of the reasons why she always kept me out of the house.

In the distance I heard a low grumble. My mother froze, her M/H/C hair framing her face from stopping. I stopped as well, watching her to see what was wrong.

Go, my mother mouthed to me, her eyes red from the tears that she had produced.

"I'm not leaving you!" I screamed.

Another harpoon shot at me, but I swerved out of the way.

"Go!" she yelled back, trying to pry the harpoon out of her again. "Tell your father to look after you and that I love him!"

Tears pricked at my own eyes. I couldn't leave the one I loved dearly. She meant too much to me. But I meant too much to her. She couldn't see me hurt.

Hesitating for just a moment, I turned and swam off, the tears from my face dissipating into the water.

That was the last time I saw her in one piece...
