Chapter 4

Your POV

Rikon swam out of the cave, his tail flicking him forward to come near us. He had spiked, green hair that stuck up in all directions. His eyes were a bright red, making him look a bit scary to be honest. His tail was a maroon sort of color and he had faint abs showing.

I could feel the boy I dragged here start to back up.

"It's okay," I said to him, giving him an encouraging smile.

His chocolate eyes showed me that he was terrified, but he braced himself against me, his arm pressed against mine.

Rikon scanned his eyes over the boy, a slight smirk starting to form. "Is this a toy I get to play with?" The small shark started circling him and he scratched the top of it's head.

"No," I said as I squeezed the guy's hand. "This is a friend of mine."

The guy suddenly spoke from next to me. "Acquaintances. Not friends."

I sighed. "An acquaintance."

"Alright," Rikon said. "What's his name?"

"Kim Seokjin," the boy said. "Or my friends call me Jin."

"Alright, Jin," Rikon said, swimming over to us. "What brings you here?"

"Actually, Rikon, it's for the both of us," I explained, letting go of Jin's hand. "We saw a vision. Together."

Rikon's red eyes widened. "But you don't have a magic line in your family, Y/N!"  

"I know," I said, starting to swim around in a circle, thinking. "Why isn't this adding up?"

"Y/N."

I looked at Rikon and his eyes were on Jin. I then got what he was implying.

"Jin," I said hesitantly, approaching him slowly, "do you have magic in your family? Is that why we saw the image?"

Jin looked just as confused as we were. "Not that I know of. The only magical creature I know of that has affected my family is the mermaid that killed my mother. And how are you not magical? You're a mermaid!"

Rikon sighed. "There's only a few magical merpeople out there. And that's every royalty line. Y/N here isn't royal. Yes, she can be a siren if she wanted to, but that only takes a good singing voice and the will to kill innocent people. But the royal lines can use magic such as summoning fish, moving the ocean, etc. But with you, something must be in you to cause a vision like this to spark."

Jin looked baffled. As he spoke, he wove his hands around frantically. "I don't have powers! I can't even pass a normal test! Why do you think I would even have powers? It's not like I really want to kiss Y/N anyway!"

Rikon held up his hands in defense. "No need to get defensive, Mr. Kim."

"There is!" Jin yelled at him, pointing at him. "You're accusing me of having magical powers! I won't stand for this!" He then turned and started swimming away, fuming.

"Jin-!" I started but Rikon placed a hand on my shoulder.

"Just give him a few minutes," he whispered, giving my shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "He'll come around."
