Prologue

Different events happen in each person's life. Some have bad experiences, some have had good experiences, but all the same we all die in the end or so I thought.   My experience with Life and Death happened on my 17th birthday.  And that was a long long time ago.

---------------------------

I took a breath and opened the double doors, light poured out of them. I stood up tall and straightened my shoulders walking into the ballroom.

"Happy Birthday Princess Anna!" was shouted at me from all over the room. I went around and greeted all the guests that had come to celebrate my birthday. After everyone had greeted me I went and sat beside my father on my throne.

He turned and looked at me. "Happy Birthday Anna." He said with a smile, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. But then again no smile or laughter has since my mother died. I nodded and smiled back at him.

Although many people were around me celebrating my birthday, I fought to keep a smile on my face. For the one person who I wanted to celebrate with most could never come.

Music floated all around me, enticing the people, seducing them with its luscious, and melodic sounds.

"Excuse me? Princess Anna? Will you dance with me?" I looked down and saw a boy about 8 or 9 looking up at me with puppy dog brown eyes.

"Of course my young gentleman." I said standing up and curtsying to him. He giggled and bowed back He took my hand and led me to the middle of the dance floor where we proceeded to dance to the lively sounding music.

Soon the song came to an end and we bowed to each other. "Thank you for the lovely dance." I said with a smile to the boy. He giggled and bowed. Then he ran off and was picked up and was carried away.

I turned on my heel and went back up to my throne beside my father.

"I am going to go out and get some air." He nodded his eye looking at me for only a second then turning back to look at the joyous people.

I grabbed my cloak from my throne and went to the balcony and slipped out unseen.

I looked up at the now dark, star filled sky. I sighed lodly, snowflakes fell all around me, and I stuck out my tongue catching them on my tongue.

"Well Mama another year passed and I hope you are watching, I love you and miss you. I wish you were here to celebrate with me and Papa, I know he misses you too." I whispered sending my words on the wind straight to the stars.

I sighed again and turned around only to crash into someone.   "I am so sorry." I apologized helping the man up.   "No its quite alright" He said brushing the snow off of himself.

He looked up and I was caught staring into his bright golden coloured eyes. "I don't bump into people often." He said with a chuckle.

I smiled and started to walk back inside.

"Princess Anna would you like to take a walk with me?"

"Well I must get back to the party-"

"I'm sure your guests can handle a few more minutes without you." He said with a smile.

I hesitated  unsure. "Alright just for a little while, I must return to the party soon." He nodded understandingly and I took his outstretched hand. He led me down the stairs of the balcony and into the garden.

"So princess today is your 17th birthday, am I right?" I nodded still gazing around the snow covered garden.

"I'm sure you will get many gifts this evening, but I would like mine to be the first you have."
