I received a message from my mother just as I finished getting ready for wherever Lauren was going to take me.

Me too..we'll see each other soon though. I got some news today. Since my active duty ended last week and I'm still disabled, they're releasing me. Once I'm recovered, I'm going home for good on disabled pay since I'll be awarded a Purple Heart. The ceremony is actually soon, not sure exactly the day but sooner than I'll be recovered. It's over in DC though so they'll fly me out.

I noticed the time on my phone was 20:30, about fifteen minutes passed when Lauren said she'd be back for me, so I decided to text her.

Who was I kidding, I liked that she called me kitten, at least in private anyway. It was our own little thing. All of this was our own little thing for now.
A few minutes later, Lauren came through the door of my room and damn near stopped my heart.
"Wow," I whispered as I eyed the woman before me. "You are so gorgeous...is it me or is it a little hot in here?"
"Maybe it's your jacket," she giggled; absolutely adorable.
"You look rather stunning yourself," she mentioned.
"It's the wheelchair isn't it," I said knowingly.
"Oh, you know me so well! I go crazy for a man in a wheelchair."
