I stared at him like he was crazy.

"You literally described a girl that's like me?" I asked. He nodded.

"Yeah. Look I'm sorry, that's why I had stopped and took a look at you. I didn't expect that to happen." He said. I nodded in understanding.

"Okay, I'll help, but first, what's your name?" I said.

"Shane. Your's?" He said, smiling.

"I'm Katy. Nice to meet you." I said. He smiled.

"Well, dear... Let's go introduce you to my friends." He said. I laughed. "We have to act like a real couple though." I nodded. He left his hand around my waist and laid my head against his arm. I met him for the first time today- well- technically second- but I couldn't help but do this. It felt... Natural. We went up to his group of friends and they stopped.

"Dude? That's your girlfriend?" One asked. I looked down and smiled shyly.

"Yep. This is her. She moved from Ireland, we had been dating for a long time over Skype and her mom got a job here in the U.S." Shane said. I looked back up.

"I'm Katy. Nice to meet you." I said, holding out my hand to them. They chuckled.

"That's not how we do it here." His friend grabbed my hand and pulled me up against him. He hid his face in my neck and then whispered in my ear.

"See... I heard your conversation with Shane... I know you don't like him... But I know you couldn't resist me.." He whispered. His warm breath hit my ear. He chuckled deep in his throat.

"Jay! Chill!" Shane said, grabbing me and pulling me back. I stood in pure shock of what just happened. He couldn't really know what happened, right? We were at least 30 feet away and whispering. I was zoned out thinking about these things when Shane snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Babe? You okay?" He said. I smiled and nodded. He smiled at me and kissed my head.

"See, I was just talking about how I uh, think she's cute in that outfit." (Its the picture at the top) Jay said, scratching the back of his head. I glared slightly at him, then looked back at Shane.

"Well, Katy's new and school's about to start, so we should get going." Shane said, slipping a hand around my waist. I silently took a deep breath in when he did that, seeming as how I felt so uncomfortable from someone doing that. I nodded.

"I agree. Let's go." I said. Shane and I nodded and then walked away from Jay. Shane threw his head back in annoyance.

"I just remembered, we're going to have to fake this almost the rest of our high school year." He said. I stopped in my tracks.

"We're both in 10th grade, right?" I said, a smirk forming on my lips. Shane, looked at me with confusion on his face.

"Yeah, what about that?"

"Well, we could pretend to date the rest of this year and through the beginning of next year, then halfway we could have a massive fight and 'break-up.'" I said. Shane smiled.

"Oh my gosh! You're amazing! But uh... what will we do if someone asks why we broke up?" Shane said.

"I'll just say that we had a huge fight over the break and we never got over it." I shrugged. Shane nodded at my suggestion.

"Shall we get your schedule?" He said, smiling. I nodded.

"Thanks, Shane. I honestly thought that for a first impression, you were kind of selfish. But I bet you would make a great boyfriend to a girl who is lucky enough." I spoke without thinking and then quickly covered my mouth. Shane just chuckled.

"Thanks. I'd bet you'd make a great girlfriend." He said. "By the way, if you need a ride, I'll take you home after football practice." He said.

"You mean what us Irish people like to call soccer? Or the American version of our soccer?" I asked.

"The American version. I think you'd like it." Shane said. I nodded.

"I'll text my mum later and tell her that I'm getting a ride home." I said. Shane nodded and I kissed his cheek. We got my schedule and it seemed that we had the exact same classes together. We walked to homeroom and he sat beside his friends, while I stood at the doorway shyly.

"Ah, Ms. Walker. I see you're here today. Come introduce yourself." The teacher said. I stepped in class looking at the ground.

"I'm Mr. Andersen. I'll be your homeroom teacher." Mr. Andersen said. I looked at him and nodded. "Now, tell us about yourself."

Murmurs broke through the class, and I bit my bottom lip. I looked at Mr. Andersen who had a look of frustration on his face.

"Mr. Andersen, I'd rather not, if you wouldn't mind, sir." I said, and the class went quiet. I suppose they weren't expecting the Irish accent.

"It's fine, Katy. Now, go sit down beside..." He said, scanning the classroom and locking eyes with Shane. "Go sit beside Shane." He said. When I heard Shane's name my heart skipped a beat, but I didn't understand why. I pushed the thought to the back of my mind, and made my way over to him and his friends. Shane was sitting on top of a desk, chatting with his friends, while I kept quiet. We were learning about the Pythagorean Theorem. (People who aren't in 8th grade wouldn't know and I know you supposedly learn it in 8th grade but in the story she hasn't learned it yet)

"So, if 15 squared plus 17 squared equals x squared, what would the answer be?" Mr. Andersen asked the class. I raised my hand slowly and Shane looked at me with a confused look on his face.

"Ah, Ms. Walker here seems to know the answer." Mr. Andersen smiled and me and motioned for me to continue.

"The answer would be 22.7, sir, when you round it to the nearest tenth." I said. I heard one of Shane's friends mumble to him: 'She's not just hot, she's smart too.' I rolled my eyes at this comment and went back to trying to listen to Mr. Andersen teach.

"That's correct, Ms. Walker. Now, how did you get that?"

"Well, first off, you have to do 15 times 15, which will give you 225. After that, you have to do 17 times 17, which will give you 289. When you get these two answers, you must add the sum of both numbers squared to get 514. When you get 514, you must find the square root of this, and it is 22.6715680975, and when you round it to the nearest tenth, you must take the number behind the six, and then- if the number is 5 or above, you add one more to the tenth, which will give you 22.7." I said smiling. The class was murmuring and some just had their jaws dropped. Shane was even staring at me in shock and Mr. Andersen was smiling.

"Very well done, Ms. Walker." I felt someone's hot breath whisper in my ear.

"Let me speak to you in the hall." Their voice was all too familiar. Shane. I nodded softly.
