January 31,1987

Phil Lester was born into a world where the human soul find its mate the second you are born, unless of corse your parents don't believe in soul matching like his didn't. Now his parents were sweet people, and they only did it to help him, but being the only kid in his school that didn't have one, didn't make him popular.

That was the past, 29 years ago to be exact, and here left Phil, a nerd without a life. Joking. Phil was not only quite wealthy, but had a degree in Film design, he even had started his own YouTube channel. 100,000 subs. Not too shabby. Yet he didn't have as much as most people, he still didn't have a soul mark. Its not like they came back, once they were removed, they were gone forever, and Phil dent even know what his looked like. The removal process didn't even leave a scar.

Scared, that all he was. Scared that he wasn't going to find his soul mate, He loathed his parents for doing it, but he couldn't complain, They had taken his brothers too. Yet his brother had found his soul mate, which resulted in his mark coming back. That's what Phil needed to do, he just, didn't know how.

Phil's Pov

I shivered, feeling the cold air surround my face. I rubbed my gloved hands together before closing and locking my flat door. Most normal people would stay home at any cost on such a freezing Saturday morning, but I'm not normal so it didn't matter.

I could hear the clicking sound as my black boots tapped against the side of the pavement . I smiled as i saw my breath swirled in front of my eyes. Quickly I made my way into a coffee shop, buying a large coffee, and sat down in a booth.

Looking around i caught a glimpse of a young girl typing away on her Mac book, a Mother and son drinking hot cocoa together, and a young boy curled in a booth, studying from a book.

His clothes looked a bit tattered, his beanie covering what looked to be a light brown fringe. He had purple rings around his puffy red eyes, Which were a deep chocolate color. I bit my lip, standing up and sliding into the booth across from him.

"Hello" I said softly, hoping not to scare him. I watched the boy put down his book shakily. "Hi..." He croaked, coughing to clear his throat

The mysterious boy smiled at me, "Why are you sitting here, with me anyway?" he asked softly, I could see small dimple poking from the freckles on his cheeks. "I dunno, you seemed to need a friend" I said, "Would you mind if I bought you a coffee? Don't take me rude but you look like you need it" My eyes caught his, I knew he would refuse, "its my treat, I see you're studying so hard and I'm positive a coffee will help you wake up" He smiled once more, "Thank you..sir?" He chuckled softly, as did I, "Please, the name's Philip, though my friends usually call me Phil"

Pumpkin Spice Latte, what a white girl. I laughed to myself at the thought, I slid the hot drink across the smooth table with ease. "There you go-.. you know I told you my name, but you didn't give me yours" The boy looked up from his work, taking the warm drink on his hands, "Dan..Dan Howell" I saw him stick his hand out to shake mine. I caught a glimpse of his Soul Mark.

It wasn't like anyone I had ever seen before, it was a star, surrounded by small circles and heart, blue and purple faded across each black outlined shape.

Shit. He caught me staring and pulled his hand back. "S-Sorry I just find them interesting.." Great, now he thinks I'm a loon. "Why would you think they're cool, don't you have one of your own?" Busted. I sighed, shaking my head gently as I took a sip of my coffee, "No actually, I don't have one"

I watched the boy's mouth drop open in shock, "How do you not have one? I mean, not to be rude, but everyone has one, you had to be born with it?!" I almost burst into laughter at his rambling, true mostly everyone had one, but I had met other people who had theirs removed, except for we were different. They never wanted there's, and I wanted mine, I wanted mine more than anything else in the whole world

Though here sat a stranger, a boy, I had only just met and we were already talking about Soul Marks. He did sound very Southern. Maybe he wasn't originally from Manchester. He looked tired, like he hadn't had a decent sleep in ages

"Are you in Uni?" I asked softly, the boy nodded, "Going in with a law degree" He seemed proud of himself, "Though it's hard, My student loan, are a bit much" he sneezed, his eyes trailing over the lines in his book. "I'm getting kicked out of my Flat cause I couldn't pay" he said shaking his head laughing, I didn't se the humor but apparently he did

"Dan can I ask you something kind of personal" The brown haired boy nodded, a small grin dancing on his lips. "Will you have a place to live?" I asked softly. The boy's face turned a dark red color as he glanced at the ground, shaking his head gently, "No.."

I smiled, "would you like one?''
