Venus' POV
Just as I had the day I'd been kidnapped, I pressed down on my dove necklace, calling my mother first.
The silver light appeared, along with my mother's face in view.
She smiled. "Venus, my dear, what's going on?"
I sighed. "Why didn't you tell me?"
My mother's eyebrows furrowed. "Tell you what, sweetheart?"
"That I had a sister. I met Alena today, Mom."
My mother's jaw dropped, but she regained her natural grace in a second. "You weren't supposed to find out this way, Venus."
I rolled my eyes, which was the first time I'd ever done so to my mother.
"Don't roll your eyes at me, young lady. Your father was supposed to tell you--"
I scoffed. "So Dad knew as well?! So you were both lying to me. Bravo. I feel thoroughly betrayed."
My mother gave me a worried look. "That was not our intention. We thought it would be best to keep you two apart."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "Where in the parent handbook does it make something like that sound okay?"
"Venus, you don't understand. I met Alena's father long before I met yours. He was the only other man I met during my time on Earth, and I didn't realize who or what he was until after she had already been conceived. She's not what you think, darling." My mother explained, the worry still present in her eyes.
"Sorry to disappoint you, Mom, but I won't accept that. I've had a sister my whole life. How can you sit there and tell me to not even try giving her a chance?"
My mom sighed. "I'm really sorry, Venus. I truly am. But it was for your best interest that we did what we did."
I shook my head. "No. It was for your best interest. I'm not a little girl anymore. I know what constitutes my best interest."
And for the first time ever, our phone call went silent.
I was the one who broke the deafening silence.
"I love you so much, Mom. That's why it hurts so bad."
This time, I was the one who ended the call.

I could feel Sev's pity as I walked into the bedroom, from the sitting room where I had asked for privacy to conduct the call.
I gave him a look. "Hold your pity. I'm fine."
He rose an eyebrow. "Are you?"
I sighed. "I will be."
I climbed into our bed, and cuddled up against him, as his arm tightened gently around me.
"My mother told me that Alena isn't what I think she is. What do you believe she means by that?"
Severus shrugged. "That's up to you to find out. As you said, you're capable of deciding what is and what isn't for your best interest."
I glowered playfully up at him. "Were you eavesdropping, Severus Snape?"
He rose an eyebrow attractively. "I quite resent that term."
I rose an eyebrow as well, rivaling him. "Were you?"
"Perhaps."
I laughed, nuzzling my face into his neck.

The next dayI woke up the next morning to an empty bed, and a note, waiting for me.
I awoke early to finish grading potions essays. I'll see you tonight, because there's someone waiting for you to wake up, who wishes to spend the day with you.
All my love,
S. SnapeI smiled, kissing the note in a cheesy sort of way. I got myself dressed and ready, and apparated into the main corridor. Right by the entrance to the Great Hall, stood Alena.
She smiled as I approached.
"Professor Snape informed me to wait here for you. I was wondering if we could spend the day together, and get to know each other, seeing as we went most of our lives not knowing the other existed."
I laughed, linking an arm with hers. "Of course we can. Which leads me to my first question: how did you know I was here?"
"It wasn't easy, if you can believe it. But I don't think it matters much now, as much as making up for lost time does instead."
I nodded, a smile forming on my lips. "What did you have in mind?"
