TWO
she wipes her face and sits up straight, hearing footsteps in the kitchen where a man steps out, drying his hands off with a towel. he takes his apron off , removing his scull cap and ruffling his hair.
he looked too good to have been hidden away in the back, she started to wonder if he ever considered modeling, perhaps he could advertise this bakery, surely so many people would walk around with baked bread then that it would appear like a new trend.
his eyes catch onto fei's and he jerks his head slightly."you're the interviewee, fei right?"
"yes sir."
he sits across from her, tugging at the links in his sleeves.
"it's nice to see you fei. so this is going to be fairly simple. i'm just going to ask you a couple of questions and if I like what i see then we're going to head on over to the back and get a few basic training essentials out of the way so you can jump right in, cool?"
her smile broadened as he spoke, it wasn't about the words but his voice. something about it made her feel more than welcome.
"do you have any prior baking experience?"
the thread of her lips loosen into a small almost inner smile, more to herself than the one before her.
"I doubt it counts for much but I was always cooking with my mom, grandmother and all of their friends..they considered themselves experts." a small expel of air lightens the room with laughter from both sides of the board, her ears flushed.
"alright next question...what do you know about our bakery; chimchim's?"
"it was uhm founded by the young ceo park jimin. he inspired to own a bakery since he was a tiny little boy with a mini bake oven.
he saved up money since the beginning because he believed that his dream could become real."
the man leans in, his entire arm on the table, his eyes twinkle as his attention is held captivate in her story that she continues to tell.
"as he got older he finally got his bakery and he looked for people who would invest in it. but because he was so young people didn't take him very seriously and ridiculed his idea, telling him all the negatives to having a bakery but now it's one of the biggest and most popular spots in korea."
she looks to him as he looks to her, she smiles sheepishly and brushes her hair back."what?"
"nothing you just..you told that story like it was a fairytale, it was so beautiful i almost forgot it was mine."
she nods, glad that he approved. stopping mid way her eyes widen, pointing to him without a word. he nods.
"you're the founder park jimin?" she covered her mouth. "i've been talking so casually to you I-I'm sorry!" she parts her mouth with her hand lightly, turning to give him a light bow as her heart begins to race.
he takes her hand and sets it on the table, his mochi cheeks glowing. "it's okay, not many people know who i am. i wouldn't expect you to."
his words ease her to a mild degree, and he nods to her seat, as if she wouldn't stop standing until she was given permission.
"but I read your entire website, never once have I seen your picture. I might've recognized you quicker if there was one."
he shrugs. "like you said entrepreneurs treated me like a joke because I was and am so young. I figured that my face on the website might draw the wrong kind of attention, investors will think I'm foolish and try to get me to sell the property..lots of things. even my age made it difficult to find employees, adults hated the idea of having to listen to someone so young and always end up angry when they're at a lesser rank than someone else. and high schoolers are too young for me to rely on. "
he chuckles lightly. "but i've carefully handpicked our current staff and they're perfect, we work well together but we figured it was time to add someone new, so we'd be happy to have you join us."
eyes twinkling, she bites her lip, attempting to suppress her joy in the mature manner of a modern adult. but the tingles running through her body didn't understand the meaning of suppressed joy.
mid-rise she stopped, having wanted to bow, hand incased in a fleshy covering she hadn't been aware of prior. jimin's hand still resting on hers; never having let go since the first time he made contact with her
at that moment he became aware of their intimacy, releasing and allowing his hands to hide between his thighs, cheeks glowing like sugar plum fairies.
"now i would like to take you to the back and just show you a couple of basics and then we can meet again tomorrow morning."
raising, he leads her to the back through a wooden swing door designed to appear like a cupboard with tea mugs inside.
he wastes little night oil, teaching her to kneed, roll and bake dough. offering up small tips such as sprinkling salt to soften the mixture, and allowing her to glaze the top with liquidating butter.
and she watched, she knew not which was more delicious, the loaves of bread or the soft caramelizing of his voice. her favorite part was when he messaged the dough, veins revealed from his rolled up sleeves.
when finished he handed her the finished product.
she offered up a warming smile and words of a goodnight, this sends a addicting tingle across his neck, he rubs it, calming himself as he bid her farwell.
pressing the freshly backed loaf in her hands, the flakiness of the crust crunching beneath her fingers, the crinkles of the paper bag relaxing. the soft simmer of the butter soaking into the moist center, it renewed her for whatever warmth she lost while stepping out the building.
a gust of hard wind shoved her as she stood outside, immediately her throat disagreed with nature.
quickly she turns back to gaze at the building, behind it she notices jimin, out entertaining the imps of frost without any covering. he was making several more batches of dough for the following day.
"he works so hard..."
hesitating she runs back into the bakery and runs back out, racing to beat the tease of an oncoming cold flu if she didn't get home.
inside she left a note, and the bread.
please eat while it's warm.
your body is a temple, treat it with warm honey dough!
