Aaron's P.O.V.~
My wings ached. My head was pounding. My heart was beating faster than it should be. Maybe this is all just a bad dream. This can't be real, right? I can't be living my nightmare. That stuff was impossible, at least, it should be.
Here I was, though, flying through the clouds with Ashton next to me. She would give me a sorrowful look every now and then, but I didn't care.
"Aaron," she whispered softly, her voice strong and unwavering, "you need to remain focused. If you lose that, then there's no telling what could happen."
I growl at her, feeling the emerald hit my scales. "I do have an idea. Clay's going to die. I'm not there to protect him."
Ashton shook her head, disagreeing with my statement, but remained silent. She was disgusted with me. I could see it in her eyes that she saw me as that other shifter.
She stopped suddenly, tilting her head this way and that, listening. Copying her movements, I heard laughter and voices joking below us.
Changing into a bird, I flew down a bit, seeing the Evil Mobile heading towards the Fortrex. I shifted back into a dragon, looking up at my sister.
"They're heading towards them, sis. They're joking and having a good time right now, but I'll make them pay," my voice darkened, deepened for a moment, scaring myself.
Ashton snorted, pointing at the ground. "Turn into a wolf down there. We'll follow on paw."
Nodding, I flew down, shifting into a wolf. I remember trying this form out before, so I remembered what I looked like. Or, rather, who I looked like.
My fur was pure black with green streaks running from my shoulders to paws, matching my green eyes. I was basically Kevin.
Shaking my fur out, I looked over at my sister, seeing her elegant form on the opposite side of the way. Her blue eyes went with her grey fur as she gestured her muzzle towards the vehicle, walking low to the ground.
I copied her, feeling the grass and underbrush catch in my fur and tickle my nose. It was a good feeling, not gonna lie, but it took some of my focus off of the main objective.
My ears twitched, my nose catching a familiar scent, one that tugged at my memory. My eyes scanned over the area, looking for that scent. When I saw it, I stopped moving forwards and stared.
Ren was on the top of the Evil Mobile, laughing along with Macy's little group. She seemed... so different. This couldn't be the child I bared, right? My Ren was kind, heartfelt. This one had a darkness to her I could sense miles away.
My heart seemed to stop for a second before a growing anger settled in my soul. They did this to her. They were going to pay.
Growling, I stalked faster through the underbrush, staying right next to the vehicle. My eyes stayed locked forward, watching for any sign of the Fortrex.
Once I saw it, I changed into a dragon, launching my body into the large object. My talons gripped the bottom of the wheels, lifting some of it up and pushing it on its side.
"Someone needs to wait for their sister to catch up," Ashton growled, stalking up to me. "Good job, though."
Nodding swiftly, I changed back in a human, taking a deep breath. That was it? Please, please, let that be it!
I looked over to the Fortrex, seeing Clay standing there, looking at us with hope. A sigh of relief escapes my lips when I saw him, a huge weight lifting off of my shoulders. He was safe. He wasn't going to die.
Just as that thought went through my head, a flash of green whizzed passed me, my sister yelling out. "No, watch out!"
Could hearts break?
My eyes couldn't be witnessing this.
Clay was pushed into the wall of the Fortrex, Morro holding a something in his hand, pushing it into Clay's chest. I could see the pain and shock on the knight's face as he stared at me. He smiled apologetically, shaking as the ghost backed off.
I growled, running over to Clay, up until a hand grabbed my arm, yanking hard.
"You didn't think we'd let you off that easily, did you?" Macy chuckled darkly in my ear, digging her nails into my skin. "You know, this wouldn't be happening if you had just died like you were supposed to."
My teeth sharpened, being sharp as a knife. "Maybe," I snarl out, looking into her eyes, "but I don't die easily."
Without another word, I shoved my fangs into her hand, making her inhale and pull away, blood dripping from both of us. I kicked her in the gut, turning and running to Clay.
He was holding the handle of the weapon in his hand, blood soaking his skin and seeping from his mouth. A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he looked up at me, tears lining his eyes. "I-I'm sorry, Aaron," he whispered, taking shaking breaths. "I-I d-d-didn't keep the pr-promise."
Tears I didn't realize had formed dripped from my eyes down my cheeks. I placed a hand on his cheek, letting a sob escape my mouth. "Don't talk like that," I beg, sniffing. "You're going to be okay. You're safe."
"Aaron," Clay pleaded, his voice weakening. "Go."
Our eyes met, his blue eyes dulling from the blood loss. He coughed, slipping down the wall to the ground, letting his eyes flutter shut. My hands gripped his cheeks, panicked.
"No," I muttered, checking for a pulse. "No," I repeated, slightly louder than the first. There wasn't a pulse. He wasn't breathing. "No!"
I felt anger cloud my mind as I turned aggressively to the monsters, shaking. When I looked, there was only darkness. At least, until a soft white glow illuminated the area, taking a hold of my arm and pulling me off.
The feeling of the hand burned me, the pain being quite unbearable. Growling in discomfort, I let my eyes flutter shut as I passed out.
