The Night We Shipwrecked

*FLASHBACK CHAPTER*
*Five years ago*

*North China Sea*
*The next morning*
As Oliver awakes the next morning, slowly drifting in the middle of the ocean. He notices that his dad has a loaded pistol laying next to him. Oliver musters up just enough energy to nudge his father enough to wake him up and he says to his father....
:Oliver--- Dad. I'm sorry.
:Robert--- No son, you have nothing to be sorry for.
:Oliver--- Sara is dead because of me. I screwed up! That is all I ever seem to do.
Oliver's dad grabs the loaded gun and says to Oliver....
:Robert--- This has nothing to do with you Oliver. I have failed my city, I am not the man you think I am.
:Oliver--- Dad, what are you saying?
:Robert--- I'm saying if anyone gets out of here alive, it is going to be you. Return home, be what I never was. Right my wrongs, make our city a better place.
:Oliver--- Listen to me. We are all going to make it out of here alive. Just save your energy dad, please.
Robert loads the gun and he puts his finger on the trigger and he says to Oliver, with tears running down his old rugged face....
Oliver slowly falls back to sleep as Robert says to him....
:Robert--- I'm afraid your wrong about this Ollie. Robert then shoots the only  crew member who survived the ship wreck as he kills him and pushes him off the life raft.
The gunshot scares Oliver as he awakes from his sleep.
He begins screaming at his dad.....
:Oliver---- Dad, what are you doing?!?
Just before Robert turns the gun on himself he whispers one last word to his son.....
:Robert---- Survive.
Robert shoots and kills himself directly in front of his son Oliver.
Oliver begins screaming and crying in shock and disbelief to what had just happened .... He just witnessed his father sacrifice himself directly in front of him. Sacrificing himself where Oliver could be granted the chance to survive, and one day return home to save Starling City.
*Starling City*
*Queen Mansion*
Meanwhile at Starling city, Caleb returns home for the day as he just came back from picking his younger sister, Thea up from her school bus. As their mom Moira was busy working at Queen Consolidated for the day, filling in for their father Robert. Caleb and Thea begins watching TV, as they begin roaming through the channels. They stop on the Starling City local news channel and they discover that breaking news had just spread across the entire country. Declaring that their billionaire brother, Oliver Queen and their father Robert Queen was presumed dead after sailors found the remains of the Queen's Gambit in the North China sea. Caleb begins to panic as Thea begins crying and asking him what was happening. Caleb tells Thea "Just calm down for a minute. Let me call mom. Its going to be okay, trust me."
Caleb calls Moira at the office. When she picks up the phone he breaks down and begins to panic as he asks her.....
:Caleb--- Have you heard from dad or Ollie?
Moira sighs as she replies to Caleb...
:Moira--- Oh no. I was afraid you would hear from someone else. I will explain when I get home.
:Caleb--- I'm not the only one that heard mom.
:Moira--- Oh my goodness! Thea did not hear yet did she?
:Caleb--- Yes she did. What's going on? Moira begins to cry while saying to her son Caleb....
:Moira--- It's going to be okay honey. Trust me. Tell Thea I will be home in a few minutes and I will explain everything.
:Caleb---- But dad and Ollie is dead.
:Moira--- We do not know the full extent of the story on what happened yet. You know you all can't believe the media. I will be home in a few minutes, its all going to be okay. Tell Thea that I love her, goodbye.
Moira hangs up the phone as Caleb walks into the room where Thea is sitting and crying and he sits down beside her and tells her
:Caleb--- Thea, its going to be okay. Mom said she would explain it all when she got home.
:Thea--- Ollie and dad are dead Caleb.
:Caleb--- We don't know that. Let's wait until we hear what happened. We can't believe what the media says. I know dad and Oliver, they will return to us.
:Thea--- But, what about Sara?
:Caleb--- What do you mean? Sara is not with them.
:Thea--- Yes she is I seen her leave on the boat with Ollie this morning.
:Caleb--- Oh no.... Selfish piece of crap!
:Thea--- Don't talk about Ollie that way!
:Caleb--- Thea you are to young to understand all of this. But our brother is screwed up very badly. It is going to hurt Laurel when she hears about how her boyfriend took her sister on the boat with him and while they are on the boat it crashed and killed Sara. Ollie screwed up and there is nothing we can do to make it go away, not this time...
*Lance Residence*
Meanwhile at the Lance residence. Laurel, her father Quentin and her mother Dinah. Began eating breakfast early that morning as they watched the morning news. While they were eating together as a family they heard a follow up report of the breaking news on the Queens Gambit drowning. Laurel began crying and shouted "Ollie." As the report comes across the TV that Oliver Queen and Robert Queen have both been presumed dead. Suddenly they received a knock at the door, Quentin went to answer the door as Dinah continued to comfort Laurel who was totally crushed. Quentin opened the door to discover that it was Oliver's mother Moira.
With a shocked look on Quentin's face he said to Moira....
:Quentin--- Oh gosh Moira, We are so sorry for your loss, come in.
:Moira--- Thank you detective Lance. I'm sorry too.
:Quentin--- Sorry, for what?
:Moira--- You and your family might want to sit down. Unfortunately, I have something I need to tell you all.
Moira and Quentin walked into the living room where Laurel and her mother was sitting and Moira sit down across from them to tell them the heartbreaking news about Sara.
:Laurel--- Moira, what's going on?
:Moira--- A source of mine revealed to me that they witnessed someone else enter the boat last minute.
:Laurel--- Oh no.... Tommy?!?
:Moira--- No.....
:Laurel--- Then who could it have been?!?
:Moira--- Sara....
The Lance family begin to cry as they now not only mourn the loss of Oliver but also the loss of their sister and daughter Sara Lance.
As Moira rose up and began to leave Laurel asked her one last question....
:Laurel--- But why was Sara on the gambit?
Moira puts her head down in shame as she replies to Laurel....
:Moira--- She was with Oliver.
Quentin cuts in as Laurel began to get even more upset and he says to Moira....
:Quentin--- I'm sorry for your loss, but its time to leave. Your family has already caused enough pain. Moira left as the Lance family sit in shock and disbelief after hearing the devastating truth of Sara and Oliver's secret affair.
*Queen Mansion later that day*
Moira arrived home. When she walked through her front door ,Thea met her at the door giving her a hug and crying as she said to her mother....
:Thea--- Why did they have to go?!?
:Moira--- Everything will be okay honey. We still have each other.
Caleb walked into the room and said...
:Caleb--- Thea give me and mom a minute alone, I need to talk to her about something.
Thea left the room, then Caleb asks her....
:Caleb--- Did you know about Ollie and Sara?
:Moira--- Well, yes. Yes I did.
:Caleb--- Why did you let him do that to Laurel?
:Moira--- When your brother has his mind focused on something or someone there is no one who can stop him, you know that.
:Caleb--- His mind got someone killed and you let it happen.
:Moira--- I know. Your brother screwed up badly.
:Caleb--- Mom, he always screws up badly. We just can't protect him from it this time.
Caleb got very angry that his mother knew about what Oliver was doing to Laurel and he began to rush out of the mansion. Moira shouted at him...
:Moira--- Where are you going?!?!
Caleb looks back at her and shouts one word simple answer....
:Caleb--- Out......
Caleb left the mansion while being angry at his family for what they did to Laurel and out of anger he made a decision that would cause a domino effect.....
*Oliver's grave*
*The next night*
Later that night after Oliver and Robert's funeral procession ended, Caleb went to their empty graves to say goodbye to them one last time. As he stood there he began to tell his brother Oliver and his father Robert goodbye for the last time but out of hurt and disrespect he tells them how he felt about them....
*Caleb's POV*
"Oliver, Dad. When you both got on that boat. I had this bad feeling that something horrible was about to happen. When you got on that boat I had this feeling that I would never see either of you again. When you got on that boat I had this feeling that I would lose my father and brother forever. I'm sorry I didn't listen to the feeling I had. I was never good at expressing my feelings or even feeling anything at all. Now I blame myself for the brother and son I failed to be. I failed you dad. I failed you Ollie. I'm sorry, I promise I will do anything I can to honor both of your memories. Dad, you told me before you left, that you wanted me to save this city and right your wrongs. That is exactly what I'm going to do. I failed you in life, but I promise I will not fail you in death. One last thing Ollie. You will always be my brother, but you hurt someone that I really care about. I thought you cared about her too but obviously you didn't. I will do everything I can to be the man you wasn't Oliver. I will not fail this city.... I will not fail Laurel."
As he is finished speaking his last words at the grave sight, Laurel walks up behind him. She startled him as she approached him out of nowhere and says to him....
:Laurel--- It looks like we both had the same idea....
:Caleb--- Hi Laurel....
:Laurel--- Hi....
:Caleb--- Are you okay?
:Laurel--- Not really. But I will be. How about you?
:Caleb--- Not really.....
:Laurel--- Where was you today at the funeral? Tommy and I did not see you.
:Caleb--- I couldn't come. After what my family did to you. I couldn't bring myself to grieve for Ollie or even honor him.
:Laurel--- Caleb, don't worry what he did to me. I will be fine. But I'm just worried about you. Don't do this to yourself again.
:Caleb--- Do what?
:Laurel--- Blame yourself. Remember what happened to you after Stephanie?
:Caleb--- Yeah.
:Laurel--- After all of that happened, you blamed yourself. You thought it was all your fault, you shut the people closest to you out and you refused let us in, you refused let me in....
:Caleb--- You was busy enough with Ollie, I didn't want to bother you.
:Laurel--- I have always cared about you. I always will. Being with Ollie didn't change that.
:Caleb--- I'm different now, I will be fine...
Caleb began to walk away trying leaving the graveyard before Laurel said to him....
:Laurel--- Caleb....
Caleb turned around asking her....
:Caleb--- Yes?
:Laurel--- This time, you need to let someone in. You need to let me in.
:Caleb--- How do I do that?
Laurel gets closer to Caleb as their bodies touch and she whispers in his ear....
:Laurel--- Let me show you.
*Laurel Lance's apartment*

*Lian Yu*
Meanwhile on the island of Lian Yu a billionaire playboy by the name of Oliver Queen washed up on a life raft on the shores of the island. Oliver barely peaked his head over the top of the raft as he noticed the cold dark lonely setting of the deserted island that he was now stranded on.
*Oliver's POV*
I have failed my family. And I have failed Laurel. Discovering that my dad was not who I thought he was, has opened my eyes. It has made me see that maybe he sacrificed himself to let me live where I could become the man he never was. Maybe washing up on this island of Lian Yu is not just a coincidence maybe it is destiny maybe it is a second chance maybe this island chose me. Maybe now I can become the man Laurel and Thea has always seen me as. Maybe now I can become someone better, maybe now I can become something better.

*Queen Mansion*
Meanwhile at the Queen Mansion Moira called an unknown person on the phone....
:Unknown--- Hello?
:Moira--- I did as you asked. I sabotaged it. In case you haven't seen the news, they are both dead. Now we can move forward with our plans.
:Unknown--- Good to know, Moira. The undertaking is being set in motion as we speak. Believe me, Oliver and Robert did not die in vain....
