I open my eyes and find myself staring at the white painted ceiling of my room. I lay on the bed for several more minutes continuously staring at the white ceiling. At some point, two small red-light just appears out of nowhere. I close my eyes and shake it out because I know it’s just a pigment of my imagination. I open my eyes again then the red-lit eye is gone.
I take one deep breath and got up. I walk out of the room to find Jarek still sleeping peacefully on the couch. I look at the wall clock that hangs at the top of the flat screen T.V. It’s 2:59 AM. A minute before three AM.
I head straight to the bathroom to get freshen up before my 5AM training starts. After I finished, I walk out of the bathroom and Jarek is still asleep. I got clothe. I head back at the living area to look at the clock. It’s already past four and Jarek is still sleeping.
Then Dr. Marcos’s words rings back on my head. Next time you came across someone who is asleep, try the thing you did with Mr. Ramos.
Am I supposed to do this now? I say to myself. I stand there for seconds just looking at Jarek. Trying to think over and over if I should do it on Jarek.
You might stubble on things that you might regret seeing. Dr. Marcos’s words ring back again.
It’s Jarek. How horrible can his past be? I ask myself.
I take one deep breath and turn towards Jarek. I stand at the end of the sofa where Jarek’s head is. I take one more deep breath. Here we go. I say to myself. I lightly place the tip of my index finger on his forehead, close my eyes and wait.
But I didn’t have to wait long enough. It just came.
…
I find myself sitting at the backseat of a car holding a plastic gun with a sticky dart which I insert in its muzzle. I point it on the window and fire it. The sticky dart sticks on the window. I push another sticky dart at the muzzle of the plastic gun and fire it again.
I can see little hands reach for the seatbelt. I know that this is Jarek’s memory but I don’t know why this is the one I am seeing. The memory when he was still a kid.
Jarek unfastens seatbelt and heads toward the sticky darts sticking on the car window.
“Honey, you should keep still and keep your seatbelt on.” I hear a woman say.
I don’t know what time it was but the sky was already filled with stars. Jarek pulls out the sticky dart from the window. He heads back to where he sat and fastens his seatbelt.
While I was sitting at the back of the car, I can see a man’s arm holding the gear stick.
“How was your day darling?” I hear the woman says.
“Not much.” The man says. “Working with Mere isn’t fun. Digging through the dirt of the corrupt is something I didn’t dream of having for a career. I might get caught in the middle of things. I am just worried.” He continues.
“Don’t be.” The woman says. “The country is fortunate that there is someone like you and Mere who is standing for what they believe in.” She continues.
“I know. I can’t help it Sandy.”
I can see the woman stretches her hand and lands it on the man’s shoulder. “It’s alright darling. I will be safe there.” She says
“I’m gonna miss you love. You and my little Jarek.” The man says gleefully.
I can feel the young Jarek’s lip curves to a smile. He sits steadily at the back of the car for several more minutes in silence. Jarek looks outside the right window which is just adjacent from where Jarek sits. Bright light from the every street light we pass by. It it reflects brightly on the car window making a little radiant orange flare. I stares at it like he is counting them. A second later I can see two men riding a motorcycle with their helmets on. It moves a little more to the front. Then I hear a gun fire.
