“Someone is trying to open that door.” Elfie says. “I am giving all I’ve got to block his signal. You must manually shut that door now!”
“How about Slayer?” Jarek asks.
“There are only a few men chasing her. She can take care of herself. If we don’t seal that door shut, we would be sitting ducks in here!” Elfie says.
We open the door, we’re dead. If we seal it shut, we have nowhere to go. My mind runs with the dilemma. The situation shifts from Slayers safety to ours.
“Ar-cee.” Staff Sergeant Salazar says. “Give me the instructions to manual overwrite to seal this door now!”
“But how are we going to escape from here?” Jarek says.
“Air ducts.” I utter while I flip the pages of the manual in search for how to manually overwrite the doors.
“What?” Jarek asks.
“We are somewhere in the middle of this structure.” Elfie shouts from where she is.“The size of the air ducts must be wide enough for us to crawl into.”
“Jarek. Go find an air duct. We’re getting out of here after we seal this door shut!” Staff Sergeant Salazar orders.
“Found it!” I exclaim and begin to read the instructions.
After a minute, the door was manually overwritten as Elfie confirms.
Staff Sergeant Salazar stands and heads to the area where Jarek found an air duct and I follow him from behind. “Elfie, pack up! We’re moving.” He says.
“Wait. Give me minute.”
I begin to hear a buzzing sound coming somewhere behind me. I turn to find out what it was.
Red sparks begin to fly out from the top and bottom of the metal hatch that we just sealed shut. Moving in a way that there were trying to meet each other. My mind instantly recognizes what the spark was. They where drilling through the metal hatch. “I think we don’t have a minute.” I say.
“Elfie! We don’t have a minute! We have to move!” Staff Sergeant Salazar shouts.
I run where Jarek stands. He places one chair on top of one desk so we can reach the opening of the air duct.
Jarek climbs up the air duct entrance and reaches out. I grab his hand and he pulls me in. The air duct is big enough for us to squat inside.
“Elfie! We have no more time!” Staff Sergeant Salazar shouts. “Come on we have to go!”
“Just 30 more seconds!”
Then the buzzing sound stops. I hear two hard thuds then a slow creak. Oh no! They are try to force their way in. My mind utters
“Jarek! Get your butt down here and help me cover Elfie!” Staff Sergeant Salazar commands.
“Whatever the hell Elfie is doing” He says as he checks the magazine in his rifle then snaps it back in.“it must be so darn important for her to risk her life like this. Or else I am gonna…” Jarek wasn’t able to finish what he was saying as we got thrown back by a loud blast.
“Jarek! Where the hell are you?!”
Jarek shuffles to get up then jumps back down.
The gun fire starts.
