Tom's POV:
I checked the time on my watch, Tess should be here by now I thought to myself. We had agreed to meet at my hotel before going out for lunch, but the time we had set had passed a while ago and now she was ten minutes late. I rang her mobile phone but it just kept ringing with her not answering. If she's not here by half past I'll go to hers I thought to myself.
Tess' POV:
I pulled on a grey hoodie and some leggings before going downstairs to my Vespa. I realised I was running a bit late so I went a bit faster than usual on my Vespa. I pulled out into the road and began speeding towards Tom's hotel. I glanced to my right at a cross road and saw a lorry but thought nothing of it and carried on.
Next minute my whole world went black and I heard a loud bang and a crack. My arm and lower back was on fire and I was finding it hard to breathe. I could feel a heavy weight on the right side of my body. All around me I could hear screaming but I was oblivious as to who it came from. Someone knelt next to me, I could see them talking to me but the words coming out their mouth just got muddled up in my mind. I could hear sirens in the distance but all I could think about was getting to Tom's hotel.
The weight on my legs began to ease, and a flashing ambulance came into my vision. The ambulance crew crowded me and I immediately felt claustrophobic, fear washed across my face as I was surrounded. One of them began talking to me but I just stared blankly at them, not knowing what to say or do. My eyelids started to feel heavy so I gently closed my eyes.
Tom's POV:
It was now half past and Tess still hadn't arrived so I walked down to the lobby and out the doors of the hotel and jumped in a cab. We got about half way to Tess' apartment when we came to heavy traffic, not being one for waiting around I paid the driver and started to walk I turned onto the block and saw flashing lights at a cross road. I had to walk past these cross roads to get to Tess', that's when I saw a badly beaten up Vespa.
My throat clenched and I began to push my way to the front. Please don't be Tess I prayed silently in my head. I got to the front of the crowd that had gathered around the scene and saw something I would never forget. Tess was lying on the ground surrounded by ambulance crew. Her right arm was in an unnatural position and when the crew lifted her onto a gurney I saw a large cut on her lower back and blood was pouring from her right temple. I sunk to the ground, not knowing what to do.
'Sir, you can't be here' I heard an authoritative voice speak. I tried to respond to them but I was frozen in my place. I felt sick. This was my fault. It was my idea for Tess to come to mine before we went for lunch.

One week later:
Tess' POV:
I could hear beeping around me and I was lying in bed that was not familiar to me. I opened my eyes and realised I was in a hospital bed. The last thing I remember was being on my Vespa, but I can't remember where I was going. I looked outside and it was night time, I'm sure it was day time when I was on my Vespa. That's when I noticed someone asleep in a seat next to me but I couldn't tell who it was from the back.
'Hel-' I began to croak, but my voice wouldn't respond to what I was trying to make it do. I tried again
'Hello?' I croaked, my voice sounded foreign and raspy. The person turned around and I realised it was Tom.
'Tess' he breathed out. He looked disheveled, like he hadn't slept in days. His normally styled hair was messy, his eyes where red and swollen and he had large black bags under his eyes. I began to reach toward his face when a sharp pain in my chest brought me to a sudden stop. Worry immediately covered his face and he ran out the room to call for a doctor. I was left alone until he came back in with a man holding a clipboard.
'Nice to see you awake Tess, I'm Dr Brown' the man with a clipboard said. 'Can you tell me what you remember? He asked gently.
I told them what little I could remember.
'How many hours have I been unconscious for?' I asked and immediately their faces dropped and I began I wonder what was up. Tom was looking towards the ground refusing to look me in the eye.
'It wasn't hours' Dr Brown began. 'You've been unconscious for a week Tess'.
My jaw dropped as Tom picked up my hand, that's when I realised my right hand was covered in a cast.
'What happened?' I murmured
Dr Brown began to tell me 'You where hit by a large lorry, the driver of the lorry escaped with only a few cuts however we cannot say the same for you Tess. You have broken your right arm in three different places, sprained your right ankle and have a large cut across your lower back and on your temple. The cuts caused you to lose an awful lot of blood. In turn this caused your body to go into a state of shock making you unconscious for a week. You where in surgery for six hours as we realigned the bones in your arm and made sure the cuts you received would not get infected.'
I didn't say anything for a while, and just say there taking everything in. It was a lot to digest. I lowered my head and began to cry, Dr Brown walked out and Tom pulled a chair up to my bed.
'I'm so sorry' he said stroking the back of my hand.
'What? Why?' I hiccuped through the tears.
'If I didn't say to meet at my apartment then we wouldn't be here' he murmured.
Tom's POV:
'It's not your fault Tom, don't blame yourself.' She said softly.
'Bu-' I began, but she stopped me.
'Accidents happen' she whispered before closing her eyes and drifting back off into dream land. I say there for hours holding her hand, eventually I fell asleep with my head rested on the edge of her bed.
---
When I woke Tess was talking to a nurse while the nurse was checking the cut on her back.
'Everything okay?' I asked
'Tess is recovering really well, she should be able to go home within three days' the nurse told me before writing something on a clipboard and walking out.
'Tess?' I gently asked
'Hmm? Yeah?' she responded, picking up my hand and drawing shapes on it.
'I have to go back to London next week' I said looking down.
