Kelly stared at the naked man in front of her. He stared back at her with empty eyes. He did not try to speak or move. She opened her mouth to say something but soon realized that her words would not reach him because he did not know her language. "I knew I should have taken those extra language classes back in school." She thought to herself. She suddenly found herself back on the peak. "Well?" I asked, "What's it like to be God of the entire Universe?" She narrowed her eyes at me and spoke, "What universe? Apart from this mountain peak, the rest of the place is just empty space. The only reason I'm alive is because I'm no longer human. It's quite obvious you are some kind of higher being since you were unaffected by the aftermath of my experiment." I sighed and considered whether to continue down that road. "Of course, things won't be this empty for long." She continued, "I plan on remaking the universe. I suppose you're at least going to stay out of my way for that... Or are you the God whose existence I've been denying?" I laughed and shook my head.
"I am no God. I am just a simple writer who makes a record of all the interesting things he sees. Anyway, how do you plan on remaking the universe?"
"Calculating ridiculously accurate simulations was my thing back when I was a scientist on Earth. I figured I'd simulate the entire universe first, to make sure there are no mistakes... and then I'd find a way to turn that simulation into a reality."
"I'm afraid there's no such thing as reality."
"What?"
"After all this while... it's something I've realized. Ironically, the closest thing to reality is a simulation."
"But that's not what I wanted. If I were to consider my own simulation as a reality, there would be no fun in that. Since I calculated every single thing within it, everything would go according to those calculations. There would be no such thing as random. I'd know everything before it even happ-"
"Believe in the Lord for it is all part of His Divine Plan."
"You've got to be kidding me. Are you telling me the previous universe was a simulation too? Some old man in the sky calculated everything?"
"I wish I was kidding... I'm sorry. Apparently, the world was never as exciting as you thought it was."
"So what now?"
"That's your call. Everything is your call now. Don't tell me you destroyed the universe without even knowing how to rebuild it in the first place..."
"No... I know what to do now... but what is the meaning of this guy over here?"
"Oh, him. I figured you'd want a companion... Humans are known to be social creatures who cannot maintain their sanity without the presence of another human."
"So you made him?"
"I- I didn't exactly..."
"You made him. What did you make him out of? My rib?"
At this point, I gave up trying to hide it. "Yes, I made him... I made him from my imagination... but don't expect me to do anything more from here on out. I hate having to play the Deus Ex Machina." She looked at Michael. He was not shivering even though he was standing naked on the peak of a mountain. "I'll give you a small hint, though. Right now, the fellow is an empty cup. His brain is mostly empty. He doesn't even unconsciously know that he has to shiver when he feels cold. Also, how long are you planning on keeping him in that state? Do you like the view or something?" I said with a grin on my face. She turned red and shouted at me to shut up. I obeyed. After all, she was the boss now. Apparently, she actually knew how to begin the universe. I wish I could tell you how she did it but she was the scientist. Not me. All I can tell you now is it involved a bit of string.
