Phone Calls

There is a knock on the door. Kamalji comes in with a file. -  Sir, ye file aapke liye aayi hai office se. He hands over the file to Shravan.

Shravan -  Sumo,  please mera ipad dena. She hands him over the ipad and sits next to him reading a new recipe book. Shravan calls Ramesh ji -  hello,  Ramesh ji,  Haan please connect kariye.

The interview starts

Shravan -  Hey Diya, 
Diya -  Hey Mr. Malhotra
Shravan -  Shravan
Sumo *Hey Diya, call me Shravan (mimicking him) already on first name basis, Ms. Singhania bhi keh sakta tha,  par nahi -  Diyaaa*
Diya - Ok,  Hey Shravan
Sumo  *It’s Mr. Malhotra for you*
Shravan -  So Diya, you are a graduate from Cambridge, what were your specialisations
Diya -  Well, most of my courses were focused on criminal law including International Crime,  White Collar Crime and I have done some courses on human rights as well.
Sumo *blah blah blah blah*
Shravan -  Interesting Choices,  guess that means Ronan must have taught you guys
Diya -  Oh,  yes he had left Oxford and joined Cam,  the very year,  I took up Human Rights,  if I remember correctly he did mention that You and Vincent were his favorites at Oxford,  weren't you assisting him or something
Shravan -  Yes I did assist him for a semester. After he  left I only met him once when I had visited Cambridge.
Diya -  Oh I remember,  you had come for the rowing competition,  and you guys had won
Sumo *ooh I remember ki bacchi ,  aur ye aur rowing competition?? ,  jab hum Cambridge gaye the tab toh isne boat row karne se mana kar diya tha, I don't know how to row*
Shravan -  Ya,  that was the only time I had participated,  frankly,  I find the sport a little boring.
Well anyway,  coming back to you,  I see that  you have got pretty good work experience yourself,  you have even cross examined Mr. Garewal,  I mean he was one of the most notorious corporate criminals I have ever come across,  must have been a tough one
Diya -  Sure was...

Shravan -  Well Diya,  welcome to the firm and to my team,  you will be handling Enron with me. I will tell Ramesh ji to give you the files
Diya -  Thanks Shravan,  and not just for today,  I mean you know
Shravan -  It’s nothing Diya
Sumo *Nothing! kitni chot aayi hai, itna high fever hai.. herogiri dekho.. Nothing!*
Diya -  Still, Thank you Shravan,  and get well soon.
Shravan -  well if you don't mind,  can I ask something?
Diya nods
Shravan -  Who was that man and why was he bothering you?
Diya -  Erm.. That was my ex - husband, unfortunately he had an accident and he took to alcohol and drugs to get rid of the pain. Since he is a doctor,  getting hold of drugs was not very difficult. Things started to go downhill from  there and eventually we divorced. I had obtained a restraining order against him that day so that he couldn't meet our daughter,  that's why..
Shravan  -  Oh

Diya - Well anyway,  I have shifted and even changed my daughter's school, the police is also trying to catch him, so.. Well anyway,  see you soon, thanks again
Sumo *kaash police usse jaldi pakad le*
Shravan - Bye,  take care.

Shravan closes the ipad,  Sumo acts as if engrossed in reading.

He lies back and massages his temple with his fingers.
Sumo moves closer and starts massaging his head and caressing his hair -  Sar me dard ho raha hai, abhi theek ho jayega

Shravan *mm this feels soo good, Sumo, only your hands can give me such comfort,  it's as if you pull away the pain with your touch,  I could kiss you a million times for this. I so badly want to kiss you right now,  I wish I could,  Stupid me,  why did I sign on those papers,  why didn't you stop me.. *
He falls asleep. Sumo receives a call,  she gets up and goes to the balcony.

Sumo -  hello maasi,  Kaise ho,  US me maza aa raha hai? Kitni Shopping ki
Rachna maasi -  Suman,  wo babuji ki tabiyat theek nahi hai, Abhi ICU me hain,  waise toh aajkal unke kuch yaad nahi rehta par beech beech me tujhe poochte rehte the,  tu aaja,  shayad tujhe dekh kar jaldi recover kare
Sumo -  Ok maasi,  aap chinta mat karo,  main abhi tickets karwati hu,  visa toh hai hi mere paas.
Maasi -  Haan beta,  jaldi aa jaa.

Sumo calls up Nirmala and asks her to come to Delhi to take care of Shiv as he would be a handful for Preeti. Nirmala agrees.

She goes downstairs to Preekar's room
Pushkar -  Sumo,  tu kya baat hai itni pareshaan kyu hai
Sumo -  Pushkar,  Preeti wo Nanu ki tabiyat theek nahi hai, main next flight se Chicago jaa rahi hu,  tickets book ho gayi hai aur kal subah maa bhi aa jayengi. Tum dono Shravan aur Shiv ka dhyan rakhna,  main ek do weeks me aane ki koshish karungi
Pushkar -  Theek hai,  jaa apni packing finish karle,  phir main tujhe Airport drop kar dunga.
Sumo - main papa ko bata ke aati hun
Pushkar - tu packing kar le,  main bade papa ko bata deta hun.
Preeti -  Di apna aur Dadu ka dhyan rakhna

Sumo goes upstairs and packs hurriedly. She goes to Shiv 's room,  kisses him on the forehead -  mumma jaldi aa jayengi,  dadi aur papa ko tang mat karna..love you.

She comes back to their room -  Sorry tumhe bina bataye jaa rahi hun,  par tumhari tabiyat theek nahi hai,  kal maa aa jayengi,  apna dhyan rakhna aur jaldi se theek ho jaana

She goes downstairs,  Kamalji follows with her luggage.

Pushkar -  Chal
They sit in the car
Ramnath -  beta,  Tiwari ji kaa dhyan rakhna

They leave for the Airport.

Next morning

Shravan -  Sumo.. Sumo.. Kaha chali gayi ye
He checks his phone,  there is a text from Sumo -  Going to Chicago as Nanaji is unwell,  take good care of my baby,  bye

Shravan mutters in anger -  Chicago chali gayi,  kab? Mujhe kuch bataya bhi nahi,  main bhi saath jaata,  wo mere nanu nahin hain kya..

Nirmala enters -  Shravan,  ab tabiyat kaisi hai
Shravan -  maa aap
Nirmala -  Haan,  Suman gayi hai na Chicago toh isliye mai aa gayi tum dono ka dhyan rakhne ke liye,  Shiv ko toh tum jaante hi ho,  Suman hi hai jo usse sambhal leti hai.. varna wo toh..kitni mushkil se maine usse school bheja waise batao breakfast me kya khaoge
Shravan *maa ko bhi bataya,  bas mujhe nahi*

Shravan -  maa jo bhi bana hai wahi *Sumo itna dur kar diya tumne mujhe,  ek baar toh mujhe kehti*
Nirmala -  theek hai tu aaraam se baith,  main breakfast laati hun, saath me karenge.
Shravan - Ok maa
