‘’You’ve got a lot of explaining to do.’’ Is the first thing my brother says when I enter the kitchen in my pyjamas. No ‘good morning’ or ‘ how did you sleep?’. ‘’Ugh, Mike, please.’’ I groan, resting my head on the breakfast bar. I feel him slap my head and blindly try to hit him back. ‘’Can’t you just leave me alone, or at least let me wake up?’’ I sigh deeply as I sit up straight and take a sip of his black coffee, just what I needed. ‘’You can wake up while explaining while you take a fucking criminal home.’’ He whispers, even though Harry is still asleep in his room.

‘’He’s not a criminal! He’s just… troubled.’’ I defend Harry and take another sip of the coffee. ‘’And how would you know? Did he tell you his life story?’’ Mike scoffs and takes his coffee back from me. ‘’Well, actually he kind of did. And I can’t say the same about you since you don’t even bother calling or texting me while you’re in New York.’’ I snap at him before I even realize it myself. The urge to say this has been here for a long time, but I didn’t want to hurt Mike’s feelings, even though he did hurt mine.

‘’This isn’t about me, Vicky.’’ Mike sighs as he rubs his hands over his face like my father always does, and Harry. ‘’Then what is it about, Mike? That I actually am a nice person and try to help someone? Someone who is getting sued for something he hasn’t done! Someone who has feelings, just like you and me.’’ I almost yell at him. Mike opens his mouth, but I cut him off before he starts speaking. ‘’I actually don’t even know if you have any feelings anymore, you’re just like dad, you judge a book by its cover and a human being by what social media says.’’ I leave the kitchen, not wanting to hear what Mike has to say.

This is not the Mike I know, the brother who I always laughed with. He thinks he’s all grown up and thinks he can be the boss of me just because he’s older and our parents aren’t home. I stomp up the stairs and enter my bathroom, locking the door behind me.

‘’ ‘Morning.’’ Harry speaks, looking at me via the large mirror, shaving foam covering half of his face. ‘’Hey.’’ I mumble back as I grab my toothpaste and toothbrush. ‘’Morning mood?’’ He chuckles, continuing to shave his ‘’beard’’. I don’t think you can even call it a beard. I’m still mad at him, but he can’t know ‘cause that would mean I’ll have to explain why I am mad at him. And he can’t know that. I fake smile at him through the mirror and start brushing my teeth.

‘’You’re going to be here for long? I need to shower.’’ I try to speak as my toothbrush moves in my mouth. ‘’Well, be my guest, I don’t mind.’’ God, that’s such a typical answer for boys. Since when did Harry start acting like this? ‘’Funny.’’ I answer sarcastically.

‘’We really need to discuss that Zayn thing by the way.’’ He swiftly changes subjects and washes the little bit of foam left on his face off. ‘’Yeah, I know. But I don’t think there’s much we can do.’’ I sigh and spit out my toothpaste. ‘’You can tell your parents you don’t want him to come to your house.’’ He shrugs, cleaning up his stuff. ‘’And tell them what?’’ I question, jumping on the counter to sit on it. ‘’I don’t know, that you’re in a fight or something?’’ He shrugs once more. ‘’That’s stupid, he should just come here and after that I won’t see him again… maybe.’’ Harry raises his brows and takes off his shirt. Is he doing this on purpose? God…

‘’And I will just stay in my room for the whole night?’’ I nod my head very slowly, feeling bad for him, but at the same time not. ‘’I uh… I’ve got to go, so can you leave so I can shower?’’ I jump off the counter and turn on the shower. ‘’Like I said-‘’

‘’Bye Harry.’’ I speak while pushing him out of my bathroom.

‘’Where are you going?’’ Mike asks me when I am downstairs, washed and fully dressed. ‘’School.’’ I lie. ‘’I will bring you.’’
