We rushed through the streets of New York, hurrying to find the missing creatures. As we ran, Newt and I scanned the ground and shadows for signs of any beast that might've gone through. I noticed a gleam of light from the hood of a car and tugged Newt to a stop.
It was a diamond earring. We shared a look and hurried on, following the trail of diamonds and other shiny things. Jacob tried to keep up with us.
I passed by a jewelry shop blindly. But, Newt stopped behind me and back-tracked to the window. I looked in and saw the niffler pretending to be a display. Newt raised his eyebrows in an adorably questioning manner. I giggled lightly and watched the niffler breath hard. It shot away in a millisecond. Newt whipped out his wand.
"Finestra," he said with a flick of his wand. The glass of the window shattered into tiny particles. I rolled my eyes and stepped back to stand next to the horrified Jacob.
I tilted my head and watched Newt desperately try to catch the niffler. He even hung from the chandelier at one point. From where we stood, it looked as though he was robbing the store. Newt and the niffler were on top of a cabinet, but it fell forward and onto the window.
"Newt!" I called out. The glass began to break in a spider web pattern. I held my breath. My hand slipped into my boot and wrapped around my wand. The glass broke and both Newt and the niffler were falling to the ground. I quickly pulled my wand out.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" I shouted. I breathed a sigh of relief and gently set everything on the ground. Newt gave me a thankful smile, but his attention was instantly drawn to the niffler trying to escape again. It scuttled across the ground.
"Accio!" Newt clambered over the cabinet and flicked his wand at the niffler. It began flying towards him, but grabbed a lamp post and changed its direction toward another jewelry shop.
Newt flicked his wand again and the glass of the window became sticky and caught the niffler. We all met up, covered in random assortments of jewelry. Newt was tickling the niffler's stomach. An impossible amount of shiny things fell out of the pouch on its tummy.
"Freeze!" A male voice shouted at us. Policemen were pointing their guns at us. I quickly shoved my wand into my boot and raised my hands.
"They went that way," Jacob laughed humorlessly. The niffler poked its head from out of Newt's overcoat.
"What the hell is that thing?!" An officer exclaimed and slightly lowered his gun. Newt shoved the niffler's head back into his coat. I smiled nervously.
"Lion..." Jacob breathed from beside me. A roar came from our right, causing me to jump back into Newt. With the officers now distracted, Newt grabbed Jacob and I and Disapparated.
We Apparated on a bride leading to Central Park. An ostrich sprinted past us into the city. I winced, knowing the damage it can do. We ran to the zoo entrance, which was in ruins, and quickly found the culprit of the damage.
A large creature that looked to be a cross between an elephant and a rhino was lovingly cuddled against a terrified hippo.
"Here, hold this," Newt said and handed Jacob a bottle of a green liquid. I scrunched up my nose at the smell. "Erumpent musk. She's mad for it." Newt cupped his hands around his mouth and produced a beast-like roar.
He began dancing about in a ridiculous manner. The erumpent loved it, though, and rolled onto her back, almost in the case. That was until the entire bottle of musk was spilled on me by Jacob. We looked behind us a saw a seal sheepishly run away.
"Seriously? I smell awful," I complained.
"U-Um, Elliott, you might wanna run," Jacob stuttered. I looked up and my eyes met with the erumpent, who was getting ready to charge. Newt's eyes widened in horror. There was a heartbeat of tense silence.
Then I let out an extremely girly shriek and ran out of the crumbling zoo entrance. I sprinted full-speed toward a giant tree while digging through my bag. I pulled out a small vial of light brown potion, pulled the top off with my teeth, and drank. With the potion in effect, I climbed the tree expertly.
"NEWT!" I screamed from a sturdy branch. My back was against the rough bark. I breathed heavily and squeaked when a loud thud sounded below me. The erumpent lay on her back, wiggling her legs at me.
I suppose she got bored, because she was on her feet in a moment. She charged and stuck her orange-glowing horn into the trunk of the tree. It began swelling with orange light until burst, sending me into the snow.
"NEWT!" I screamed yet again and began sprinting again. I slipped around on the ice of the lake, desperately trying to keep balance. Being a klutz like usual, I fell flat on my ass. I shuffled backwards as quickly as I could. Just as the erumpent's horn was centimeters from my face, it disappeared. Newt slid his way over to help me up. Jacob stood meekly holding the case.
"Brilliant show, Elliott!" Newt laughed and pulled me to my feet. "And thank you for the help, Mr. Kowalski."
"Call me Jacob," he smiled and patted Newt's shoulder. My heart was racing, but I laughed and we all made our way under the bride and into the case.

A lone figure watched the trio disappear under the bride. The person scrambled down and locked the case hastily. They turned, revealing it to be Tina Goldstein. She composed herself and Disapparated to the MACUSA building.
Inside, a meeting concerning the death of Senator Shaw drug on.
"We are risking exposure!" One delegate exclaimed.
"I'm sure we can settle this peacefully-" Madam Picquery started. She was interrupted by all heads turning to face Tina. "Ms. Goldstein, you better have a good reason for interrupting this meeting."
"I do. You see, yesterday a wizard came to New York with a case of magical creatures. Well, a few of them escaped and-"
"You knew about an unregistered wizard in New York for twenty four hours and didn't report it? You choose now to tell this, when we are in the midst of a crisis? When a No-Maj was killed?" Madam Picquery stated. Tina's face contorted into confusion.
"Who was killed?" She asked. The president just shook her head.
"Show me this wizard." Tina nodded and knocked on the case. Slowly, the lid opened and Newt, Elliott, and Jacob stepped out.
"Scamander?" Asked the Minister of Magic.
"Theseus Scamander? The war hero?" Asked another British delegate.
"No, his little brother. And what in the name of Merlin are you doing in New York?" answered the Minister. Newt cast his eyes downward.
"I came to buy an Appaloosa Puffskein, sir," Newt mumbled.
"Tina, who are the other two?" Madam Picquery asked, referring to Elliott and Jacob.
"Elliott Romanoff, a friend of mine and potions master. And this is Jacob Kowalski. He's a No-Maj that was injured by one of Mr. Scamander's creatures," Tina explained. At the mention of No-Maj, panic went through the room. But Newt was focused on the image of the dead Senator Shaw's body.
"You know which of your creatures was responsible, Mr. Scamander?" Madam Ya Zhou asked. Newt examined his face.
"No creature did this... Don't pretend! You must know what it was; look at the marks..." Newt trailed off. Everyone looked at him expectantly. "That was an Obscurus."
"That is too far, Mr. Scamander. There is no Obscurial in America. Impound the case, Graves." Madam Picquery ordered. Graves instantly brought the case to his side. "Arrest them."
"N-No!" Newt cried out. Spells were cast at them from all directions. Elliott, Newt, Jacob, and Tina were all brought to their knees. Another spell was cast and Elliott's bag flew to the hands of Graves.
"NO! NO GIVE THAT BACK!" Elliot cried in a frenzy. She struggled to get to her bag, to protect her friend residing inside.
"Don't hurt those creatures! Nothing in there is dangerous, please don't hurt them!" Newt pleaded.
"Take them," Graves ordered. The four of them were dragged from the room, with Newt and Elliott both screaming for their stolen creatures.
