Two Months
-

Josh and I were waiting patiently at the OB/GYN office to be called up. We looked through the booklets and the "What to Expect" pamphlets and the pictures of how our baby looks, or will look, inside the womb.

"If you're two months pregnant, then it's an actual bean. Our baby is a literal smol bean." I gave him an 'are you kidding me' look and rolled my eyes.

"You're so lame." I tried to be annoyed by his comment, but couldn't when he had such a cute face.

"You like it." He kissed my temple and continued to look at the pamphlets. He had a look of awe as his eyes scanned the paper, the concept of creating and watching life right before his eyes intrigued him.

"Mrs. Dun?" said the petite nurse who wore Disney printed scrubs called us up. Josh got up from the uncomfortable office chair and pulled me up with him. We walked hand in hand through the entryway and followed the nurse to a white painted room with different diagrams and detailed pictures of the female human body.

"Mrs. Dun, you can lay down here and Dr. Keene will be here in a few minutes." I nodded and jumped up the small bed, laying down.

"Are you ready?" Josh asked, moving his seat so he could be closer to me.

"Heck yeah!" We talked about a few things before the doctor came in and looked around the room, trying to make sense of the pictures surrounding us.

"Good afternoon. I'm Dr. Keene, it's my pleasure to be your obstetrician for the next nine months." She shook my hand and then Josh's with a warm smile and sat on her chair and wheeled over to us.

"So, I'm guessing you took a home pregnancy test which is why you're here, but I would like for you to pee in this cup so we can confirm that you're in fact pregnant." I nodded and took the cup, following the doctor to the bathroom.

I tried maneuvering the cup so when I peed, it would aim straight in the cup rather than going everywhere. It was easier said than done, but somehow managed to get it in. I filled it up to the line and finished peeing as soon as I screwed the cap closed.

I washed my hands and dried the cup as best as I could, the container being warm to the touch. I gave the nurse the cup and went back to the room. When I got there, Josh was scrolling through his phone, his left knee bouncing up and down nervously.

"Hey babe, are you okay?" I asked, resting my hand on his knee so it would stop.

"Yeah, just excited." His smile met his eyes and it put me at ease to know that there was nothing bothering him. I laid back down on the brown leather bed and waited for either the nurse or doctor to come back.

"Hey babe, what would you want our baby to be?" He asked, lacing our fingers together.

"Mmm, kinda want a boy. But if it turns out to be a girl, then I'll be delighted nontheless. You?"

"I don't care, as long as the baby is healthy." He kissed me cheek and sighed contently. Even after being around each other for so long, I still wondered how I managed to get such a loving and understanding husband/best friend.

A few minutes later, Dr. Keene came in with a clipboard in hand and sat down on the chair.

"So, the results came back and they are positive. Congratulations! Now, I'm gonna ask you a couple questions regarding any prior pregnancies or medical history that may be concerning, is that okay?" I nodded and she proceeded to ask questions.

"From the answers you have given me, it seems that you are healthy and have been keeping yourself in check. I am also happy to hear that you're a year sober. If you are wondering if the drug use will cause harm to the baby, it most likely will not seeing as the drugs and alcohol have been completely flushed out of your system.
