I could hear the howls of my pack members spread through the night, the rush of paws hitting the ground just outside the window as i curl up under my bed..frightened. This has never happened before, I have never heard my pack members howl so panicked before, even my own parents outside my closed bedroom door are speaking in hushed voices but at a fast pace. Even though they speak quietly, I can still hear them with my wolf life hearing.

“What do we do Carlos?”

“Calm down Lillian, We will need to go and help our pack!”

“But what about Tala! She can’t be left here alone! What if they find her!”

My mother’s panicked voice caused me to crawl out from my hiding spot under my bed, my little feet carried me to the bedroom door where I stretched out to grab the door handled lightly turning it and pulling the door quietly peering through a small crack, I saw my parents stood in the hallway close to the front door, I could see by my mother’s face that something bad was happening.

“Mommy?”

“Tala sweetie what are you doing up?”

“I could hear everything, whats wrong?”

“Nothing dear go back to bed”

I stared at my parents confused on what was happening in the small village to cause such noise, as I was about to talk our front door burst open a man from our pack stood deep breathing staring at my parents.

“You need to come quickly!”

“Whats happening?!”

“Another pack.. they are hear and tearing through the village like there after something..”

As his voice trailed off all three adults turned to look at me, my mother let out a strange noise as she held onto my father tears running down her cheeks. I stared up at them both as they silently walked to me taking me back to my bedroom, peering under my father’s arm I could see the man at the door frown at me and wave.. what was happening?

“Tala sweetie, we need you to do mommy and daddy a big favour now, okay?”

“What wrong mommy, whats happening?”

“Listen to your Mother Tala, this is important”

“Sweetie, me and your father have to go help the pack, but we need you to go to the forest okay?”

“But mommy-”

“Honey, me and mommy love you so much”

My father scooped me into his arms, holding me to his chest as he pressed his lips to my head, I felt my mother’s hand on my back as she pressed her lips to my cheek, water dripping onto my face. I pushed myself into my father’s chest harder not wanting to lose their warmth and comfort.

“Sweetie you must go now, we have to go too”

My parents walked over to the window in my room pushing it open and both climbing out, still in my father’s arms I clung to his chest not liking the feeling that was building in my chest.

“I don’t want to! I want to stay with you!”

“Tala honey, you must! This is important for us all, we will meet you in the forest, go to the little cave that you found this summer!”

I stared up at my parents as my father put me to the ground, what was this feeling in my chest? As I stared up at my parents I nodded my head while wrapping my arms around their legs.

“Okay, Promise you’ll come soon!”

“Swee-”

“Promise!”

“We promise Tala, now go..straight to the cave and don’t come back at all!”

"Tala sweetie don't shift! What ever you do while going to the cave don't shift into your wolf!"

I nodded to my father and mother then turned towards to the forest, I started my journey to the border of the trees when I heard my Father shouting to me to run, I picked up my pace my little human legs carrying me as fast as I could until I was in the trees heading to our hide out, in the distance there was a mix of wolf howls that could be heard.. but I never looked back and I never shifted to my wolf.

Upon reaching the cave, I ran inside to the far corner and panted while sitting down to rest my legs, I curled up watching the front of the cave waiting for my parents to come in after me..

However, as I felt the time going by they never came..I could feel the weird feeling in my chest building as I waited even longer. Eventually the sun of the next day started to shine into the cave and my parents never came..they broke their promise..

I was alone.
