Jenny and I arrive in the city around 6:30. The entire ride she was blabbing on about how we would decorate our apartment and the amazing things we will be able to do. When I was finally done with listening I told her I had a headache and I was going to rest. I put my ear phones in and faced the window, pretending to be asleep.
Once we arrived at Cassidy's apartment, Jenny gently shook me. "We're here, Opal."
I pretend to stir as I sit up in my seat. "Let's go," I mumble, grabbing my backpack from my feet. We exit the car and walk up the steps leading to the building. We buzz her room and moments later the door unlocks letting us inside. The apartment building did not have an elevator, so we hauled ourselves up the stairs to the 4th floor. We finally reach room 478. We didn't even knock once before the door swung open and we were engulfed into a bone crushing hug.
"You're here! Oh my gosh! I missed you!" Cassidy squeals. She releases us and Jenny laughs as I smile awkwardly. I haven't seen Cassidy in 3 years during Jenny's 16th birthday. I remember her being super nice. She still had her long, curly, blond hair, she reminded me of a girl who would live in Hawaii, she seemed to be a surfer girl, wearing long tropical dresses and always going so natural. I was definitely jealous of her beautiful clear skin.
She welcomes us into her apartment, and we follow her to the kitchen. She pours us a glass of wine she surprisingly had.
"Where did you get this?" Jenny asks, saying my thoughts.
"A friend of mine that's 21" she grins.
"Tell her we said thanks, I needed this," I reply, raising my glass before taking a sip. Alcohol definitely will take the edge off the fact I'm in a room with two preppy girls. I love Jenny to death, but I can only handle one of her at a time, and Cassidy is a VERY perky girl. Oh well.
"I'm sure HE will say it's no problem," she laughs. "Oh! A he huh?" Jenny asks and I raise my eyebrows.
"Mayyyybe..." she purrs. I watch her eyes sparkle at the mention of the boy. She definitely likes him. I've seen the look on many hopeless romantics before, shit, I've had the look myself. I hope he's good to her, she seems so innocent towards love, one heartbreak could change that.
"So who is he?" Jenny asks.
"Well, you'll meet him tonight, he's taking us out," she states. My stomach drops. I REALLY didn't want to go anywhere tonight. I was hoping we could stay in and order some Chinese and have a calm night, I should've known they were gonna want to go out, and probably try to get into some clubs. I mentally groan at the thought.
"Oo! We're are we going?!" Jenny pries.
"Nowhere special, probably to a club downtown, he's friends with the bouncer." I knew it.
"Yay! Doesn't that sound fun, Opal?" Jenny questions me.
Now, here's my problem. I really don't want to ruin Jenny's night. Sure, I could tell her that I wasn't feeling up for it and tell them to go without me. But knowing her she'll ever back out last minute or feel guilty the whole night and not enjoy herself. Either way I can't make her happy without making myself miserable. But she deserves this, she's had a much harder few years than I have, loosing her brother in a drunk driving accident. I know she's been dying to just get away from her parents to finally let her be free. They are so afraid of her repeating her brothers mistakes. I should look after her.
"Sounds great," I reply.

I can hear the booming base from the club as we stand on the curb waiting for Cassidy's guy to arrive. I'm shivering in my black, short dress and pumps along with the other girls who are also wearing minimal clothing. They insisted I get dressed up much to my protests, but I decided not to fight them on it for long and just went ahead and let them do their magic.
