right before school,

on a frigid morning,

i approach you with your glove.

you must miss it

you're such a goof,

wearing just one glove instead of two.

must be special to you------

i know you need it more than i do

i call your name out.

i am ready,

i can do this!

you look back at me with a curious expression

...i slip on the sidewalk and fall on my face

humiliation, fear

hatred, anger, frustration

all these feelings

i wished i wasn't there

what a fool i am.

i want to disappear.

but then

i hear him

please, please...

don't mock me.

i'm so sorry,

somebody as graceful as you

could never love one as clumsy as i.

"------hey,

are you okay?

can you get up?"

i look up.

he hovers above me

his face misconstrued into an expression so awful:

he appears

worried.

"------i'm perfectly fine!

ha, i'm such a klutz!"

his eyes light up

and he

offers me his hand

the one

without a glove.

despite the cold,

i had never felt so warm.
