Refrain from cursing. You may be horsing around with some friends, but the intention behind your words are always a hundred percent clear. Swearing is like verbal poison that hurts its listeners, even those whom the words aren't intended for.

Meditate each morning. Meditation is great for clearing your thoughts. It makes decision making easier, and if done properly, it can even develop your willpower.

You need not turn monk to gain decent results from this practice. 5 minutes each morning is more than enough to get the job done. To get started, sit in a comfortable position, relax your body, and close your eyes. Breathe in and breathe out slowly, all the while keeping your mind focused on nothing but your breathing.

The moment your mind wanders, shift your focus back to your breathing. The effort you exert to refocus on your breathing is actually what develops your willpower. As you get more accustomed to meditating, you'll find the frequency in which your mind drifts decrease. You'll also notice marked improvements in your ability to focus, stay motivated, and remain stress-free.

Never linger on negative thoughts. Don't be a pessimist who only sees the bad in life. Keep a negative thought long enough in your mind, and it won't be long before you start acting upon it. Through repetition, actions become habits, and habits form your behavior. Your behavior is a major aspect of what you are as a person, so if your head's constantly tuned in on negativity, you might be surprised to wake up disliking your being, or having transformed into an individual who represents everything you dislike.

Research has proven that holding a negative thought in your mind has the power to weaken your immune system, and even make you fall ill. Such is the case of hypochondriacs. They imagine they have a sickness so frequently that their bodies manifests it into reality.

Fill your brain with positivity. Late master motivator Zig Zigler once said that positive thinking will help you do everything better than negative thinking. Being happy, confident, and a generally positive individual is a conscious decision we ought to make everyday. Dwelling on positive ideas and thoughts influences positive actions, habits, and behavior. With this frame of mind, you'll be less prone to poor self-esteem, failure because of a lack of confidence, succumbing to depression, and other unfavorable situations you don't want to be in.

Positive thinking is associated to a number of health benefits, including better stress management, greater resistance to the common cold, and an increased span of life.

Use self talk to influence your subconscious mind. Neuroscientists have proven that our conscious mind only governs 5 percent of our actions, while the remaining 95 percent is governed by the subconscious mind. For anyone who doesn't know this fact, it's huge and something to always remember.

Since almost every thought, action, reaction, habit and behavior is run on autopilot, it'd be in your best interest to make sure your subliminal mind is "programmed" or influenced the right way. An effective way to influence this part of your brain is through positive self talk. Thinking positive alone is good, but the mind is greatly influenced by the words you speak. Take this technique to the next level by putting emotion into the words you tell yourself, and believe that whatever it is you speak is the truth, or will become the truth.

Get a Pomodoro app for your computer or smartphone. The Pomodoro Technique is a productivity method developed by Francesoco Cirillo in the late 1980's, but it's still kicking ass today! Basically, the program let's you work in blocks of 25 minutes, with a few minutes of rest in between each block. It's said that the breaks allow your brain to rest, and function more efficiently during each block.

Keep a gratitude journal. In a small journal or a word document in your computer, write down at least 3 things you're grateful for at the end of each day before going to bed. It can be something ordinary like "I am grateful for the delicious meal my wife cooked", or something special, like "I'm glad I was invited to that terrific birthday party at our neighbor's".

A gratitude journal, as its names suggests, is used to foster a sense of gratitude. Those who write down everything that's good in their lives tend to see the silver lining in any situation, are generally more appreciative, and rarely take things for granted.

Listen to classical music to unwind and get smarter. Playing this sort of music isn't solely for the purpose of making it appear that you have a liking for the finer things in life. Studies published by the Oxford University Press suggest that listening to Mozart's tunes can give listeners a temporary boost in their IQ!

Be productive. If you feel you aren't accomplishing enough each day, you need to look at what's demanding your time, and cut off the things that aren't serving you. Doing things that serve you (or benefit other individuals of your choosing), generates a feeling of incomparable satisfaction and a sense of fulfilment. Moreover, productive people tend to reach their goals faster, be it a better relationship with your spouse, travel, money, or whatever.

Delay gratification. If you study successful people, you'll see that one of their best characteristics is their ability to delay gratification. Folks naturally want to attain an immediate sense of satisfaction with minimal effort, which makes putting in more effort for a far greater reward in the future a daunting task.
