Mom: Diana! You're gonna be late again! Hurry up!
Diana: Ugh, fine!
Hi, I'm Diana, I'm a junior in high school...and I hate it.
Mom: Do you have your bag? Your homework? Look, you almost forgot your lunch!
I roll my eye at my mother and call over my shoulder,
Diana: I'm leaving...
Mom: What about your-?
I slam the door and walk down my front steps, I didn't want to listen to what she had to say. I live with my mom, which is kind of a pain. It's only her.. I never knew my dad.. Sometimes I think I never had one. Sometimes I don't think I have a mom either, she always just nags and only cares when something happens at school.. Which is often.
Jane: Hey Dian!
Diana: Hey Jane.
I'm that kid that's always in trouble for no good reason. I've never gotten in a fight or argued with a teacher, I'm just always in trouble for one thing or another.
Jane: Do you wanna come over today? I could use help with Algebra.
Diana: Sorry, I gotta finish "Slankey's After School Boot Camp"...
Jane: I still can't believe they're punishing you for the girl's room door.
Diana: Well, I of course, had to be in there when they were fighting.
I roll my eyes at the memory.
Jane: I know, it's still unfair.
About a week ago the door to the girl's room got busted down, a girl was pushed through it and they thought I was hiding in the stall cause I was guilty.
Jane: Didn't you explain to them what actually happened?
Diana: Four times! I told them Beth ran in crying then three other girls came in yelling some madness. Then I guess they pushed her into the door and it broke. But of course the girl's ran and left me as the only suspect there.
Jane sighs and shakes her head.
Jane: At least today's your last day in detention and then you can hang out with me!!
Jane jumps and wraps her arms around my shoulders almost knocking me over.
Diana: Ugh, thanks Jane.
We continue to walk until we make it to the school's entrance doors, everyone calmly walked through but to me it was like walking through the gates of hell.
Diana: I'll call once my detention is over and we can meet up some where okay?
Jane: Okay! See you after school.
Me and Jane have been friends for as long as I can remember, we're always together. She's the exact opposite of me though, always happy, sees the bright side to everything, tall, beautiful brown hair. And then there's me short, long black hair, short temper, but I guess Jane doesn't mind since she hasn't kicked me to the curb yet.
*After school and Mr. Slankey's detention*
I close my door to my room and throw my bag on the floor. I walk over to my bed and lay down in its cozy covers and let out a deep sigh.
Diana: Friday at last...
Mom: Diana!!!
Are you kidding me I just got home!?
Diana: Yeah?!
Mom: Your aunts are coming into town so find clothes for church!
My aunts are religious crazy, before and after dinner they think you have to pray for the food for an hour. So we go to church almost everyday when they're here. We're going to church, but it feels like hell...I walk down stairs to talk to my mom so I don't have to strain my voice anymore.
Diana: Mom can't I stay at Jane's? Please? You know how I feel about this.
I've gone to church since I was little but I didn't really care about it too much, I always fell asleep. But as I grew up and started to understand more of what the pastor was saying the I more I didn't like what he said. It sounded wrong and misleading.
Mom: No! You're going, this is your family, it would be rude if you didn't go.
And I guess my mom doesn't want to listen to what I have to say. I hold back my frustration and go upstairs to call Jane.
Jane: What?! They're coming? Why?
Diana: I don't know she didn't tell me.
Jane: Are you gonna go?
Diana: Well I kinda have to.
Jane: Maybe his lecture won't be so bad this time?..
My pastor believe that if you don't follow the word of God to a T you're basically going straight to hell. That's all he talks about, sin, death, and hell. No happy topics ever!
Diana: I don't know, he might show us the "You Fucked Up: Go to Hell" video..
Jane: Oh my god I remember that! Didn't he show us that when we were like 8?
Yes, let second graders watch a video where a family dies in a car crash, and a little boy has to watch his family go to heaven while he goes to hell for stealing a candy bar earlier that morning.
Diana: Yeah... That was fun.
Jane: I was so scared after watching that. I think I cried for almost a week!
Mom: DIANA!
Jane: Ow! That hurt me.
Diana: The witch is calling, I gotta go.
Jane: Okay, call me so we can meet up later.
Diana: Okay bye.
I get off my bed and walk downstairs to see my aunts Grace and Karen standing in the walk way.
Aunt Karen: Are you ready?!
Aunt Grace: Doesn't look like it.
I hold my tongue back from returning an equally as rude comment.
Diana: I thought we were eating dinner first?
Mom: Your aunts have decided we would have dinner at the church.
Diana: You have got to be kidding me?
Aunt Karen: Come on let's go! No dilly-dallying!
Just shoot me now...
