Chapter Thirteen

Lauren's POV.

"This is outrageous!" Niall exclaimed, banging his fist on the wall. "I didn't follow my dream for this shit!"

I couldn't blame him for the frustrations he was feeling. This whole scaring-the-band-out-of-their-skin thing was becoming too lame. Whoever was doing this obviously had nothing better to do with their sorry life. Seriously speaking.

But maybe, a thought spoke up at the back of my head. Just maybe, they were out for money, and decided this was the way of getting it. That had to be it. It was the most feasible explanation to their behaviour I could come up with at the moment. If only there were some way to communicate, ask them what it was they wanted in return of never bothering the band again.

We were now back in the tour bus, heading closer and closer to Peru with every kilometer that passed the tires of the bus. The next concert was in the said location in two days. And since the boys' concert dates were spilled on the world wide web for everyone to see there was no doubt our little friends were maneuvering towards the same destination.

"I can't believe they're actually following us around," Liam muttered from where he was slouching on his bunk.

"But your guards are everywhere! How did not a single one of them not see anything?" I asked exasperatedly, throwing out my hands in the process. From what I had seen fans were pretty obsessed with seeing their idols. If there was a loop hole in the security they would surely have found it ages ago.

"They followed us halfway around the fucking planet!" Niall burst out. "Even the craziest girls don't do that!"

"Considering the many eyes that have been watching us lately they must be half ninjas or something," Louis thought out loud.

I jumped down from my bed. "I'm going to call my colleagues," I announced. "This needs to stop. I haven't even had time to properly try to find Lux yet." They nodded, and Harry got up from his sitting position, but I shook my head subtly, stopping him from following me. He sat back down again awkwardly. I shot him a grateful look and mouthed a silent 'thank you', to which he smiled warmly.

Lux's chances at survival were becoming slimmer with every passing day, but I decided to not say that just yet. They didn't have to worry more than they already were. But something had to change, and that's soon.

Making my way all the way to the very back of the bus, I dug my hand in my back pocket for my phone, scrolling through the phone book. If they wanted to stay hidden and fight from a distance while probably having the upper hand in number, then fine. Let them. But two can play the same game.

"Hello?" The only voice that had brought a feeling of safety to me during the dark time of my life right after my parents' death could be heard through the speaker.

"James, it's me."

"Lori! How are you doing?" he greeted me. "I haven't heard from you in ages!"

I laughed. "I only started this mission two weeks ago. It hasn't been that long." It felt nice to hear a familiar voice for once.

"Doesn't feel like it," he mumbled.

"Time flies by when you're having fun, eh?"

"True," he agreed.

"How are things working out for you back home?"

"Things are going great. We caught the jewel thief and returned the crystals to the museum. Boy, where they heavy." His tone was a little on the smug side. "He had hidden them in an outhouse."
