"Cynder.. do you think there's still hope that he's not.. you know...?" Spyro sighed, casting a heavy gaze to his companion. With a stagger of her words, she explained that he was not going to be back, however sad it may be.
After a long, much needed rest within the valley, the two headed back to Warfang, the great dragon city. Their minds still raced from their experience. What was I to do? What could I have done? The thoughts echoed and groaned within his head.
Getting ready to speak his mind, the air grew silent. Too silent. She had made it clear as day that they had reached their destination. There was no time for sulking, for they had reached the battered gates of Warfang. One wall had crumbled in from a golem's mighty fist, as if Hell itself had broken through in a fit of rage. After a quick scout about the caving wall, Cynder spotted a safe area to land.
As soon as their paws touched the ground, the silence was broken. A crowd of moles and dragons came rushing towards them, excited praise being thrown at the two. Everyone was ecstatic to see the heros' return, especially in one piece.
Within the many unknown faces came an oh so familiar face. It belonged to a cheetah named Hunter. His golden pelt pushed through the crowd as he came upon the two. Kneeling to their eye level, his smooth voice hushed the crowd in a heartbeat. "Spyro... Cynder... welcome home. We thank you for your service to the city of Warfang, for the Dragon Temple... and to the guardians."
A twinge struck Spyro and he looked away, guilt creeping out like a black haze. The young dragon couldn't help but feel responsible. His father figure had died sacrificing himself for the two, after all.. it wasn't something easy to cope with.
Sensing the unease, Hunter's ear flicked and he stoop back up, straightening his shoulders with a growl. "Alright, out of the way. These two need to speak with the guardians," his claws scraped the stone ground as he began to make way, keeping the two close.
Whispers crept from the crowd, many beginning to wonder where Ignitus had disappeared to. Exchanging glances, Spyro and Cynder wondered how the guardians would react to the fallen fire guardian.. hoping for the best.
