I hadn't seen Grayson since the incident, thank God. It's been a week and I'm still have flashbacks that make my stomach drop. I told Caroline what happened and she thought it was the funniest thing in the world. She "loves my dad". I always get worried when she says that, I mean she says it a lot. But nah, Caroline's been with older guys, but not almost 40 year old guys, more like 23 year old guys. Why am I even thinking about Caroline being into my dad? I mean she's flirty but she's not an animal.
Jesse's birthday is on Saturday, so in three days. I have no idea what to give him. He likes football, he likes... umm, music, and uhh more sports, and, god I have no clue. Maybe I'll do that thing that Serena did to Nate and pretend like his birthday is no big deal but really I've got something awesome planned and we can have a "special night" together. Yep, I love it! But what can the awesome thing be? Maybe the surprise can be the "special night", and some chocolates. Sweet, I have Jesse's birthday down. He did mention his parents are out of town until Monday morning. This is perfect.
"What ya thinking bout?" Caroline prods me.
"Jesse's birthday on Saturday."
"Ooo what are you getting him?" She asks.
"It's a surprise." I say as the bell rings, so I get up and leave class without another word to exaggerate the mystery. I hear Caroline yell "Brittany!" I smirk, I love annoying her. While I internalize Caroline's misery (honestly she has to know everything!) I bump into something, someone very familiar.
"Can you watch it?" He says angrily. Not as friendly as the last response I got. Grayson.
"Sorry." I say trying to resist eye contact.
"Oh it's you, the chick with the mouthy dad." He smirks.
"Guilty." I say slightly lifting my arms in surrender.
"Well, watch where you're going, again." Before I could say anything, an arm wraps around me. It was Jesse.
"Is here a problem here?" Jesse addresses Grayson.
"Why do you care?" Grayson asks.
"This is my girlfriend, dick." Jesse's grip tightens.
"Woah Jess, it's ok, there was no problem." I say in a soft tone, Jesse doesn't remove his glare from Grayson.
"You're going out with this prick? Wow! Can't actually believe you fooled a chick into being with you Carson." Grayson said looking Jesse in the eyes. Jesse didn't say anything, he just glared at Grayson with a look I'd never seen on him before, pure hatred. Grayson just chuckled before giving me a death glare and walking off, nudging Jesse on his way. I just looked up at Jesse, an expression of anger mixed with confusion washed over my face.
"What?" He said.
"What the hell was that Jesse?"
"What the hell was what?" He asked playing dumb.
"That thing that just happened between you and Grayson? I walked into him and all of a sudden you're looking at him like you're going to kill him." I said in an almost angry tone.
"It was nothing. He's - he's, just an asshole who thinks he's better than everyone else, no one stands up to him for being a dick and it pisses me off." He said looking down the corridor where Grayson had gone down.
"What did he do exactly to make you think he's a dick? I mean, he doesn't seem that bad to me." I admitted. Jesse glared at me for a few seconds. "I gotta go. I'll text you later." He pecked me on the cheek then hurried off. "Ok?" I said confused as he wondered off. The bell rang and sauntered off to my next class; English.
