palatable

pain is not beauty
there is nothing beautiful about hating yourself wishing yourself fairer willing your thighs thinner crafting yourself smaller building sentences folded into one another like the origami cranes you built with your middle school best friend because you'd read that it was good luck
about stitching yourself between the seams of everyone else hoping you could live there and just disappear for a while you're taking up too much time too much space

too much growth is waiting to happen

and i know what the weight of loving yourself can feel like
but don't hesitate at the pruner
snip snip snip off all the parts of you that had the time to fester and build when you were so occupied with why your skin doesn't look like porcelain why your eyebrows join in the middle and why no one can ever spell your name right and should i shorten it to make my name make myself make my everything more palatable for everyone else

peel off the sticker I know that it's your favourite part but i promise
it's only going to get better
because love is beauty and passion is beauty and there is everything beautiful about uncorking love and being selfish enough to use it all on yourself
and going after what you want even though everyone warns you that you'll end up like icarus hurtling towards the ocean with molten wings and maybe that's true
but I'll take the rush of air and imminent death against my ears

the feeling of soaring towards the sun is worth it
