I enter the lobby looking for Amy. She texted me last night telling me that she wanted to meet first thing in the lobby. I catch her staring off into space near an empty corner away from the crowd. She turns her head, her face lighting up when she sees me. I run towards her and she me meets me halfway.
"I you," Amy says, wrapping her arms around me in a tender hug.
"You just saw me Saturday."
"I know, but I just can't stop thinking about you."
"A-Amy... I feel the same way."
"Would you want to walk me to class,Tim?"
"Gladly. Where's your next class?"
"I have geometry with Mr. Jefferson."
"You're a junior?"
"Yeah. And you?"
"A sophomore."
"I'm glad you're not a freshman," Amy replies.
"Why?"
"Because, all they care about is there phones and posting stupid pictures on Snapchat."
"Have you looked around? It's all grades not just freshman."
Just as the words leave my mouth, a girl with jet-blue hair almost walks straight into a wall, looking up from her phone moments before it happens.
Seriously, I think you better watch where your going rather than texting your friend about what your going to wear tomorrow.
Amy laughs. "Tim, your absolutely right."
We arrive at Mr. Jefferson's classroom five minutes later. Amy gives me one of her irresistible hugs before entering Mr. Jefferson's classroom. Luckily for me, Mrs. Freeman's room is right next door.
Mrs. Freeman's class is so easy today. All we do is take a test on systems of equations. I finish my test five minutes before the bell rings, check my answers, and turn it in.
When the bells rings, I pack up my things and bolt out the door. I find Amy waiting for me.
"I thought I would walk you to your next class."
"That's sweet," I say slipping her hand in mine.
We're walking down the hallway towards the staircase, when I here my name being called. The voice belongs to Brett.
"Hemlock, I just want to talk to you."
"I got nothing to say to you."
Brett ignores my comment and keeps on talking.
"Isn't this cute. Limpy and Nothing are a couple. I never thought you'd ever get a girlfriend."
"Don't call my girlfriend that! Her name is Amy!"
"Tim, he's not worth getting upset over," Amy says in a calm voice.
"I'm not going to let him treat you like that."
I catch Brett eyeing Amy's camera around her neck.
"Limpy, get over here and take my picture."
My blood is boiling inside my body. I so want to punch Brett right in his pretty football face.
"Tim, go," Amy mutters under her breath. "I don't want you to be late for class."
"I'm not leaving you."
"I'll be fine. I won't be late for class. I'll tell Mr. Potters that I tripped over my feet and fell. It worked all the time at my old school."
I reluctantly start to walk away, but then my pace quickens as I take the stairs two at a time, run down the hallway, and enter Mr. Kelsak's room just as the late bell chimes. Mr. Kelsak slams the door shut.
"People, continue reading your books. I expect you all to finish your books by tomorrow."
Mr. Kelsak retreats to his desk while we all groan and pull out our books. I finish reading Something like Fate pretty quickly. The book was cheesy, but somehow I related to it. Lani fell in love with her friend's boyfriend. And her friend's boyfriend starts to fall in love with her. When Erin goes away to camp that gives Lani the perfect time to get to know Jason better. Maybe it was fate that Lani and Jason ended up together. Maybe it was fate that brought Amy and I together. In a way Mom is the reason we're together. If she didn't kill Abigail, maybe I would have never gotten detention and met Amy.
