it was hazardous from the beginning and I knew that
but that didn't stop me from pressing my lips against yours
and inhaling the smoke into my lungs
that night is when I knew you were my drug of choice
a year has past
for a while the hunger inside me ceased
but after the summer solstice
I was starving for your touch
a painful, festering hunger
the first bite was satisfying
intoxicating
but by the last bite
you had turned sour
cold
you can't expect me to put a puzzle together when all the pieces aren't there
it was toxic from the beginning
and it still is
I associate you with the color grey
sad and static and a rainy fall morning
and although I picked the bluest sky I could possibly find
the clouds eventually rolled in
and the skies turned grey
like they always do
whenever I'm with (or without) you.
