(Seraph's POV)
I cling to Alex as we follow Toriel into the ruins. Toriel smiles and says, "Welcome to your new home, innocent ones. Allow me to educate you in the operation of the ruins."
Toriel then walks across some buttons and flips a switch on the wall, opening a passageway. "The ruins are full of puzzles." She states. I smile and whisper to Alex, "I might like this place after all. You know how I love puzzles!"
"Ancient fusions between diversions and door keys. One must solve them to move from room to room. Please adjust yourselves to the sight of them."
I cautiously press the remaining buttons. Alex walks up to a sign and reads it, saying, "It reads, 'Only the fearless may proceed. Brave ones, foolish ones. Both not walk the middle road.' Hmm. Strange."
I go to Alex's side and we follow Toriel into the next room. She says, "To make progress here, you will need to trigger several switches. Do not worry, I have labeled the ones you need to flip." Toriel walks to the other side of the room. I read one of the two signs. "'Stay on the path.' Well, no dip Sherlock." I say. "Anyway, I kinda wanna get out of here, so let's just flip the switches."
Alex nods in agreement and we flip the switches the Toriel labeled. She seems really pleased and says, "Splendid! I'm proud of you! Let us move to the next room!"
I sigh and we follow her into the next room. There's a training dummy in the room.
"As humans living in the Underground," Toriel says. "Monsters may attack you. You will need to be prepared for the situation. However, worry not! The process is simple. When you encounter a monster, you will enter a fight. While you are in a fight, strike up a friendly conversation. Stall for time. I will come resolve the conflict. Practice talking to the dummy."Alex and I look at each other with confused looks on our faces. Why in the living hell would someone talk to a training dummy? We do as she asks. She seems pleased. "Ah good! Very good!" She says.
We follow her into another room. "There is another puzzle in this room." She states. "I wonder if you can solve it."
Alex and I follow her through the room. Then a weird frog looking monster approaches us. Our 'souls' appear. Alex clears his throat and says, "Um, you look nice today." To the monster.
It didn't understand what he said, but it was flattered anyway. Then Toriel walks up to it and glares at it. It runs away. Our 'souls' disappear.
We follow Toriel to a bridge that's made entirely out of spikes. Toriel turns to face us and says, "This is the puzzle, but..." She reaches out to Alex and continues, "Here, take my hand for a moment."
I grab Alex's right hand tightly and he carefully gives Toriel his left hand. She leads us through the maze. I'm honestly a-maze-d (A/N Yes, she pulled a Sans here XD) we didn't fall on the spikes and die.
"Puzzles seem a little too dangerous for now." She tells us. Then we enter yet another room. "You have done excellent, thus far." She says. "However, I have a difficult request to ask of you...I would like you to walk to the end of the room by yourselves."
That being said, she runs to the end of the room. I mentally face palm. "Come on, Alex. Let's just do this to please Toriel. She seems nice and helpful."
Alex nods and we hold hands and walk across the room. When we get to the other end, Toriel walks out from behind the pillar. "Greetings." She says. "I was merely behind this pillar the entire time. Thank you for trusting me. However, there was an important reason for this exercise...To test your independence. I must attend to some business, and you must stay alone for a while. Please remain here. It is dangerous to explore by yourselves. I have an idea. I will give you two cell phones. If either of you need anything, just call. Be good, alright?"
With that, she walks away, leaving Alex and I alone. We look at each other. "Well," He says. "I know she said to stay put, but I think we should move forward. It's the only way we're gonna find a way out of here. Come on!"
I smile and, like a child, say, "Alex! Can I ride on your back?"
"Go for it!"
I giggle gleefully and jump on his back. He carries me out of the room. My phone rings. I answer it and put it on speaker. "Hello...?" I say.
"Hello? This is Toriel. You two have not left the room, have you? There are a few puzzles ahead that I have yet to explain. It would be dangerous to try and solve them yourselves. Be good, alright?" Toriel hangs up.
I turn the screen off and put the phone back in my pocket. "Ooo! Alex!" I say, playfully. "Look! A pile of leaves!" I jump off his back and drag him to the pile of leaves. We playfully crinkle through them. It fills us with determination!
