boy. chapter iv!

the light of the laptop screen was almost blinding as she opened it in the pitch black of her room. it was her 15th birthday in a few days and she'd decided to buy herself a present... with her mother's credit card. the website was colourful and the binders looked kind of the same.
she scrolled through, trying to find the colours that she wanted (peach, black and white) and pulled out a piece of paper that had her mum's credit card details and pin number. she grinned when she found them and ordered them immediately, typing in the details and her post box at rapid speed.
when she completed the order she looked at the bottom of the page at the arrival date. will arrive between the 13th and the 18th of January. she sighed and and shut the laptop quickly as she heard footsteps making their way towards her room. she rolled over in her bed and pulled the sheets up around her neck.
"cor." the familiar sound of her brother's voice filled her ears. she sat up as he made his way to her bed. "what's up?" she asked and he grinned at her. "mum's taking you out tomorrow. i heard her talking on the phone to nan and pop just now" he said and patted her knee before getting off the bed and making his way to the door. she was about to ask why but he was already gone.

she stood up in class. they were doing that stupid primary school introduction again. she was in 11th grade for crying out loud. although she wasn't freaked out like she was when she had to do this in the 3rd grade and she stood with pride, twiddling with the hem of her JAWS shirt. she cleared her throat and grinned at the class.
"hi. my name's corey." the class then replied back with an extremely dragged out "hi corey" and the teacher folded his hand on the desk in front of him. "tell us something that not all of us may know about you corey" he said and she pulled at her shirt. "well i was born a female but i identify as a male."
the teacher leaned back in his chair, looking startled, and she quickly took her seat. she could hear whispers coming from her classmates but she ignored them. she was basically glowing, the biggest grin present on her face. she sat silently as the rest of her homeroom introduced themselves. the bell rang and she scurried out of class, pretty excited to get to her earth & space science lesson.
she felt a tap on her shoulder and prepared herself for the worst. but when she turned around she was met with an unfamiliar face and pulled into a hug. when the stranger let her go she was met with the face from a boy in her class, derek, she was pretty sure his name was.
he had icy blue eyes and dark hair. he was beautiful. he smiled at her and leaned in "thank you" he said and turned around, she grabbed his arm, "what for?" He smiled at her again "for what you said in there. for making people aware that there are people from the LGBT community in school."
she felt her chest well up with pride. "are you-" he cut her off "gay? yeah." and then he ran off to class and she was left in the hallway.

he pulled the handle to the passenger side door and grabbed derek's hand, lacing his fingers through his boyfriend's as he shut the door behind derek. this was it. the night he'd been preparing himself the last month for.
the night where he'd be free from all the snitchy comments as he walked down the school hall. free from all the disgusted looks that he got when he pushed his blue-eyed boyfriend up against his locker to kiss him. the night where he'd be free.
he shut his eyes and and placed a kiss on derek's cheek before they walked up the steps and through the double doors for the last time. there were streamers strung all along the lockers and balloons scattered here and there in the hallway.
the basketball court was lit up with strobe lights and disco balls. it was all a little too teenage drama film for his liking but he was happy that he was there with derek. students were already dancing in the middle of the court but as the principal made her way to the stage, they made their way to their seats.
derek pulled him to a table that seated corey's best friend, opal and her date and derek's best friend gabe. when the names were called to the stage he felt his body tense up. derek placed his hand on corey's and smiled at him. "kayley lloyd" the principal called and he stood up slowly, earning a squeeze of his hand from his boyfriend and encouraging smiles from the others at the table.
he made his way to the stage as the principal called out his OP score and his achievements whilst at the high school. his certificate of graduation was handed to him and when he shook the principal's hand he leaned in. "may i say something?" he asked and she nodded. he took a step towards the lectern and looked out at the rest of the seniors.
"i'd like to make a correction" he said into the microphone, his eyes finding derek's smiling face as the anxiety began to lift off his chest. "my name's actually corey lloyd." whistles and cheers were heard throughout the hall as he made his way off the stage, grinning.
