boy. chapter v!

at eighteen now, he threw his car keys into the bowl near the door and ran his hand over his face. university was busy and he had about 5 test papers due in the next week or two. he walked down the hallway and into the lounge room, flopping down on the couch next to his brother and running his fingers through his freshly dyed blue, purple and pink hair.
he'd got it done for pride week last week as a bi visibility token and decided that he liked it so he got it done permanently at the hairdresser yesterday. he stared at the television silently as it flashed with images of kids in need of donations because of their poor living conditions.
"mum! have you sent the 10 bucks to yolanda yet?" he called and got off the couch, heading to the kitchen where he'd passed his mother on the way to the living room. she was cutting up carrots by the sink when he turned into the open room, but that wasn't the first thing that he saw.
his eyes landed on the small white box on the counter closest to him. he picked it up quickly and read the label. sure enough what was written on there was corey lloyd. testosterone capsules. prescription. he didn't pay attention to the rest because he whipped his phone out and dialled derek's number.
he was in derby at the moment because the pearl diving business was set there and that was his profession at the moment. "what's up cor?" derek asked in his usual cheerful voice. corey sighed and looked down at the box. "my testosterone arrived today" was all he said as his mother and brother pulled him into a hug.

he was nineteen and in hospital. the stupid hospital gown was cold against his back as he sat on the bed in the small hospital room, leaning against derek's chest. he'd come back down to broome to be with corey as he went through his surgery.
after all, a lot was going to happen this afternoon and he wanted to be a supportive boyfriend and be the first person he sees when he wakes up. corey was shivering. with nerves mostly but the thin hospital gown and the over-powered aircon didn't really help the case. derek tightened his grip around his boyfriend's waist and placed his chin on corey's shoulder.
the doctor walked in and did a few quick check ups on corey before telling derek to that he had to get off the bed because it was time for corey to head into surgery. derek's eyes were filled with worry as he weighed out the possibilities of what might happen during the surgery.
corey placed a quick kiss on his boyfriend's lips as derek climbed out of the bed. corey lay down and tried to keep his eyes on the blue-eyed boy for as long as he could but as soon as the hospital bed was pushed out of the cold room and into the even colder hallway, the boy he loved disappeared from sight.

he was twenty. one year post op and two years on testosterone. it had been a long drive out of broome to get to the place that corey's father took him when he was younger. he had fallen in love with that place the moment he laid eyes on it. that's why he was taking derek there. because the moment that he laid eyes on derek he knew that he was falling. they sat under the cluster of trees, derek's hand gripping his boyfriend's tightly.
corey was running his free hand through the blue-eyed boys dark hair as he gazed at the stars shining above their heads. derek seemed astonished by the fact that corey's father, of all people, found this place. because from what corey had told him, his father didn't seem to win parent of the year in his books. derek looked up at his boyfriend and grinned.
he sat up and pressed a kiss onto corey's lips and it didn't even take a second for the other boy to kiss back, but he was the first to pull away. derek was a little surprised to say the least but then corey leaned in and whispered "close your eyes" before kissing derek's cheek lightly and leaning back.
he tried his hardest to fish out the box from his pocket without making too much noise but it was kind of difficult. he told derek to stand up when he successfully pulled the box out of his pocket. corey got down on one knee and told derek to open his eyes. the blue-eyed boy clamped his hands over his mouth at the sight of corey on one knee in front of him.
"derek camren rye" corey said and looked into the eyes of his boyfriend. "the moment i laid eyes on you when you thanked me in the school hallway 4 years ago i knew i was in love. there's nothing much else to say other than the fact that i want to spend the rest of my life with you."
there were tears running down derek's face now.
"so. will you do me the greatest honour and marry me?"
