Ruby scoffed when she noticed Matt Donavan puppy dog eyeing Elena Gilbert down the hall from her. She doesnt deserve him. Ruby thought bitterly as she slammed her locker door. She shuffled up the crowded hallway to her first block class: Science.

The teacher was devastatingly boring as she gave a lecture on what would be expected of them this year. The teacher, who introduced herself as Mrs. Evans, turned on a cell cycle video which was surprisingly more entertaining than she was. Mercifully, the bell rang. Everyone jumped up, wiping the drool off their sleepy faces, and shuffled out the door.

Math was not as depressing to Ruby. Her oldest friend, Bonnie Bennett, was in the same class.

"How was your summer?" Bonnie asked as they sat in adjacent seats.

"A bit boring, but I was happy to hear Elena and Matt split up," Ruby replied with a victorious smile.

"Matt's taking it hard," Bonnie stated as the teacher walked in and ordered silence. He spouted out information about the curiculum for the next hour and a half. Ruby doodled in her sketchbook untill the lunch bell rang.

"I just don't understand why he would go out with her! I mean, she just threw him out and forgot all about him," Ruby vented to Bonnie as they walked to lunch.

"Her parents did die," Bonnie replied, taking up for Elena. Ruby narrowed her eyes.

"Yeah, but she got a new boyfriend pretty quickly," Ruby retorted, gesturing to Elena, who was laughing with some strange guy.

"They're not together," Bonnie stated matter-of-factly as she was waved over by Elena. Ruby rolled her eyes.

She went through the lunch line and chose a table to sit at.

"Is anyone sitting here?" Matt asked.

"Nope," Ruby stated harshly.

"Whats wrong with you?" Matt asked as he sat down by the fuming girl.

"I'm sorry, it's just been a long day," Ruby replied, feeling bad for snapping at him.

"I know the feeling," Matt said looking over towards Elena like a lost puppy. Ruby silently wished he would look at her that way.

"I'm sorry about you two," Ruby said genuinely. Matt didn't reply. What he didn't know was, she didn't mean she was sorry that they'd broken up. She was sorry that he'd gotten with that she-devil in the first place. They finished their lunch in a wistful silence.

Ruby thought about how much Matt was hurting during her English class. She barely noticed when the bell rang for her to go to her next class.

History had always been Ruby's favorite subject, and this year would be no different. She promised herself that she would cheer up for this class as she walked in the door. Elena's new crush accidentaly brushed up against Bonnie. Her face lit up with horror.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"Yeah, I gotta go," She replied tersely and hurried off. He watched her with a confused look on his face. Maybe I should warn him before the snake gets him, Ruby thought as she walked up to him.

"I'm sorry about her, she's not usualy like that," She apologized. "I'm Ruby Fell by the way," She said sticking her hand out for a handshake.

"Fell as in... Founding Family Fell?" He asked, intrigued.

"The one and only," Ruby smirked proudly.

"I'm Stefan Salvatore." He shook her hand, smiling.

"Salvatore as in... Founding Family Salvatore?" Ruby teased, giggling.

"The one and only," Stefan smirked.

"Hey you," Elena smiled at Stefan as she walked in the door. He smiled back at her and they took adjacent seets. Ruby begrudgingly took a seat along the opposite wall which held the window.

"Good afternoon class," A man stated as he walked to the board and began to write something down. "My name is Alaric Saltzman, I am your new history teacher," He turned and smiled at the class and began the usual lecture about what they would do in the class this year.

When the bell signaled that school was over, everyone rushed out. Ruby waited for the hallway to clear before she walked out into the hallway and over to her locker. She opened the locker and neatly put most of the books in her locker, and the rest in a black messenger bag. Ruby closed the locker and walked out of the building with her keys in hand. She unlocked the door to her blue Hyundai Tucson and drove home.

Ruby walked into her dad's house knowing it would be empty. Her parents had gotten divorced, and her dad worked long buisness hours so she could do almost anything she wanted. Ruby walked to the fridge and got a Coke. Then she sat down so she could doodle in her drawing pad and watch T.V. She had taken to sketching a rose when she heard the news anchor speak up. She looked over at the television set to see that two people had gone missing. Brooke Fenton and Darren Mallory were their names. They'd most likely been a couple, seeing that they were around the same age and went missing at the same place.

Remorse surged over Ruby, but she brushed it off. They would be found. Nothing bad ever happened in Mystic Falls.
