I stayed there under my desk clutching my phone for I don’t know how long. He said he was coming but I couldn’t wait. I wiped the tears from my eyes and scooted out from under the desk and stood up. I weapon. I needed a weapon. I ripped open the desk drawers and couldn’t find anything, I didn’t even have scissors. I rummaged around until I found a small key and shoved that into my pocket hoping maybe I could use it to slash or something. After realising nothing else would be of use I turned to my bookshelf. I grabbed the thickest book I had and decided that would have to do. Slowly I opened my door and looked out into the hall. It looked like no one was there. I slipped into the hall and let my door close quietly and then I tiptoed down to the other end of the hall away from the elevator. I kept glancing around myself looking to see if I had been spotted but no one had materialized yet. I peered down an adjoining hall and ran across it when I saw no one was down there. I turned a corner and saw the door to the staircase making my heart leap. I wrenched the door open and peered down through the railings, all clear. I climbed down the stairs trying not to make a sound. I had just reached the second floor and was starting to descend further when I heard the door below open. I jumped back and pulled open the door to the second floor and entered the hall. The second floor was much bigger than the third. It had more wards on it and many more winding hallways and an alarming amount of more rooms. I hid in the room nearest the door to the stairwell but to my dismay saw that it was only a small staff room or something on the same lines. There was nowhere to hide. I tried to calm myself and stationed myself beside the door, my book held over my head ready to slam down on to anyone. It was a matter of minutes until I heard the door to the second floor swing open. I heard light footsteps approach the door and saw a shadowy figure peer into the room. I held my breath and waited. The figure moved on only to return as I let out my breath and lowered my book. Shit! The handle on the door started to turn and the when door was pushed open I closed my eyes and swung my book across my body. I felt it make contact with someone in the stomach and heard them fall against the door. I didn’t even hesitate to lift the book up again and make another swing with my eyes still closed. I jumped over the body in the door way and tried to sprint back into the stairwell while trying not to scream.

My hand just reached the handle for the door when I faltered, “Lucy!” a voice so familiar to me pierced my ears. My hand slipped off the handle and down the door, the book slid out of my hand and my knees gave way and dropped my body to the floor. I could hear him struggle to stand and then listened as his footsteps echoed back to me. My hand lifted from the floor to my mouth to keep me from making any loud noise as tears streamed down my cheeks. I scrunched my eyes closed as I braced my one hand against the door. I hadn’t really believed him. I hadn’t thought that he would be able to get into the hospital let alone away from his house. I had thought straight away that his words were a lie. I had thought that that would be the last time I would hear his voice, hear him say my name. I had thought that there was no way I would make it out of this hell. I had bathed in his voice thinking that it would be the last time I heard it and yet here he was. He came for me. Tears poured even harder down the sides of my face. I listened as his footsteps died away right behind me as he sunk down onto his knees.

“Luce,” all it took was a whisper. I turned around and threw myself at him. I clutched at his shirt and leaned my head onto his chest and took in his firewood smell. I felt his lips on the top of my head and continued to burry myself in him. “Luce,” a little louder this time, “we need to keep moving.

I nodded against him and pulled back. With one hand still gripping his shirt, I wiped the tears from my eyes and looked up into his. He looked okay other than his forehead which was a little red and his hands which were pulled behind him, “Your hands…” I whispered.

“Erza, she cuffed me before I was able to get in,” he smiled down at me but only for a moment. His features changed and all light-hearted talk was put aside, “We really need to go though, Luce, these people, they will stop at nothing to get what they want.
