The Little Things Give You Away

The room we were in was simple. One couch, one chair, two side tables, a coffee table and a cupboard, none of them matched. After letting me in, Natsu walked over to the couch and sat on the arm. I cautiously moved forward and went into the cupboard where I found just what I needed. I took out the clipboard, a pen and some paper and stacked them neatly, then I made my way to the chair. Slowly, I lowered myself into the chair and looked up. He was tall, had to be a few feet taller than me, and had a body that was well toned. He wore faded blue jeans and an old black tee, to match his eyes, and a denim jacket. The most defining part of him though, was his hair. It was a nice rosy pink, it looked like it would look nice if it hadn’t have been weighed down my dirt and grime, which went for the rest of him. His shirt had a few holes, his pants scuffed up with dirt and his skin was covered with small scrapes and cuts. His face seemed to be set in a permanent scowl.

I took a deep breath, hoping we could get through this easily, “Would you like anything to drink before we get started?”

“No,” he replied in a monotone voice.

“Alright, so, what has brought you in to see me today, Mr. Dragneel?” I asked.

“Those dipshits,” he nodded towards the door.

I gave a shaky laugh, “I guess they did, but there was a reason for them bringing you here, a reason that you needed someone to talk to, right? So, has anything big happened in your life recently?”

He huffed and rolled his eyes, “No.”

“No? Okay, how have you been feeling lately?”

                “Fine.”

“Good! It’s no fun being sick,” I smiled at him. He was being so unresponsive, I scribbled that down. “Have you been going out lately, been seeing any friends or your parents, siblings maybe?”

“Seriously? You think I’ve been doing what exactly? Going out to parties, hitting up the bar with some good friends? Maybe I’ve been going out to the family cottage with my dad? Ya, ‘cause that’s what having escorts would suggest I’ve been doing,” I didn’t know his scowl could go any deeper, I was wrong. He talked to me with so much disdain in his voice.

“So what have you been up to lately if it’s not the latter?” I raised my eyebrows at him in question and waited to get something out of him.

Again he rolled his eyes, “Nothing.”

I let out an exasperated breath I had been holding, waiting for him to stat cooperating. Obviously that was not going to happen. I set down my clipboard down, got up and out of the chair and went to the door. He didn’t say anything but just watched me as I left the room. I closed the door behind me and placed the key in the lock, this one would take any chance to run, “Be right back boys,” I said to the escorts and went down to my office. Once in the room I let out another exasperated sigh. I sat down in my swivel chair and put my desk phone to my ear and dialed a number.

“Mira Strauss, how can I help you?” a light and feathery voice said.

“Hello Miss, it’s Lucy Heartfilia from the psych ward, I’m currently in the middle of a session with Natsu Dragneel, the man of that file you placed on my desk the other day. I was hoping you could tell me something more about him as I’m having difficulty in getting him to open up.”
