The Forced Marriage

Chapter 9

April 18 Wedding Day

Today is my wedding day and I haven't seen or talked to Colton since that day when I got out of his car. My mom seems to think I have been dying for not seeing him for that long. But I have been perfectly fine without him. It has actually been great. "Valerie, time to get your hair and make-up done." my mom calls to me from down the stairs. Yes, I am staying at my parents for this past week, I guess Colton had some movers come and take all my stuff last week. I get up from the couch and walk downstairs where I see all of my girlfriends here already. "Valerie! I'm so glad you moved on from Joshua so fast! Somebody who dumps you like that is not worth any of your time!" My best friend Kate says to me.

"I know! I figured why sit around moping when I could be out finding a new man." I say with a forced smile.

"Okay ladies, lets do your hair and make-up!" The stylist tells us, and all her assistants come in and we each get one. It takes her 3 hours before she's done with me. 3 freaking hours for a wedding I don't even want to go to. Ha my own wedding to be exact. I look at myself and find she would have done the exact same thing I would have done. Just it looks 10,000 times better. She did smoky eyes, and light lip gloss and mascara. For my hair she had it in a braided updo. I honestly think I look really good. "Alright ladies, dress time! The wedding starts in an hour, and we have to be there in 20!" My mom shouts at us all. Well my three friends and my two sisters. Me, Kate, Brittiney, and Syd all run upstairs while Char and Rosie had their stuff downstairs.

I see my dress hanging up on the door and I stand there and stare at it until I feel a slap to my butt. I yelp and turn around and see Kate there laughing. "Come on, Val. Lets get you into this dress." I get into my dress and I have to say, I look good.

I run outside to the limo and jump in careful not to ruin my dress, I may just cry if that happens. The limo driver speeds off, but we area five miles away from the church when we get caught in traffic. "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! MY BEST FRIEND IS ABOUT TO BE MARRIED! DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO GET US THERE IN 10 MINUTES!" Kate yells at the driver.

"Kate, don't be so mean to the poor man!" I tell her.

"Please?"

"That's better!"

We pull into the church parking lot 11 and 1/2 minutes later and we only have 10 til the wedding actually starts. "Okay, Rosie remember you're going down with Jase, Syd, you're with George, Char, with Jeremy, Britt, you're with Neil, and Kate, you're with the best man, Josh. Got it? Rosie, you're going first. Okay let's do this."

We line up in front of the door, and my dad makes his way over to me, we are behind the wall so nobody can see me. "Sweetheart, you look beautiful. I know this isn't a real wedding to you, but it is to me. I didn't think I would be walking you down the isle after what Josh did to you, I love you baby girl." He kisses my forehead.

"I love you, too daddy. I'll always be your baby girl." I say as I hear the music start, and Rosie and Jase start down the isle. The Syd, then, Char, then Britt, then Kate. Shit it's our turn. The usher's shut the door so we can get positioned in front of them. Once we are ready my dad knocks on the door and I hear the wedding march start. Very slowly the doors open, and I look down at Colton. He is actually smiling at me. Shit I didn't think this through, I have to kiss him. Shit I should smile back. I smile back at him, and I see Josh out of the corner of my eye. What in gods name is he doing here! Holy oh my god. I don't know how my parents think I can do this! I suck at lying.

We get to the end of the isle, and Colton comes and takes my dads spot. The priest says that everyone can be seated, and then we get started on the vows. "The couple has decided to say their own vows to each other." the minister says to us. Shit what? I thought we were not doing that. Fuck.

"Valerie, from the moment I laid eyes on you, I knew you were something special. I know we didn't get along at first, heck we still don't get along, but that didn't stop me from falling in love with you. You're the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. I knew that after I saw you for the first time, I would do anything to have you, and I mean anything. I love you" he says as he slides the ring on my finger. Holy shit this is bigger than the engagement ring!

Oh god. Its my turn now. Okay Val, breath. You go girl.. You know all of this is a lie so you don't have to believe it. Okay. "Colton, the first time we met, I never thought that we would actually get married. It never even crossed my mind. I never thought it would be me and you up here together. But somehow you got me to fall for you, and I love you so much for that. If it weren't for you I would probably be at home eating potato chips right now and watching sappy movies. Thank you for changing my life, and I thank myself for giving you a chance." I say as I slide the ring on his finger. Shit we are almost done!

"And now by the power invested in me, and the state of Florida, I know pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride." Shit here it goes. Colton leans into me and I know that I should probably help him out and lean up. So I lean up towards him and close my eyes. I wait for his to touch my lips and when they finally do, I feel all tingly inside. I don't know why. Oh shit kiss him back Val. The kiss ends a couple seconds later, and the minister says "Mr. and Mrs. Johnson everybody." and everybody stands up and claps.  Yay us...

We walk down the isle hand in hand, and go out and get into the limo to take us to the reception. I see Kate standing at the door with Josh and from the looks of it, it isn't good. I'll have to ask her about it later. We get to the reception hall an hour later, because the limo just drove around for awhile. Tonight, we are going on our pretend honeymoon, which is us driving to the airport and just Colton getting on a plane to go to England for two weeks for buisness. Did he ask if i wanted to go? Nope. Did i care? Nope. We go get our food and then its time for the first dance. Great. They play "I Do (Cherish you)" by Mark Wills. Love this song. I'm glad they picked it. We danced like we were in love. I looked into his eyes and smiled. He kisses me because everyone was chanting "Kiss Kiss Kiss" It wasn't as good as the first kiss, but its okay.

By the time midnight comes along, we have to go cause his plane takes off at 1. We wave goodbye to everybody, and get into the limo. "Okay this is whats going to happen, I'm going to have the driver drive to the back, and i will be the only one getting out. You just sit here, i will get onto the plane with my luggage, and if anyone asks I will tell them that you have a later flight out to England. Okay? We're here. See you in two weeks. Don't be stupid." He says then kisses my cheek. Eeek. 2 cheek kisses okay. "Bye Colton be careful" I say as i smile. 

He gets out and shuts the door. Well here we go. 2 weeks of no Colton before i actually have to act married.
