Do you and Kyung-Shin want to come to our goodbye stage tomorrow? I have tickets for you if you want to go.
From: Kang Hyun-Ae
Jinjja?! That would be so much fun! But didn't Kyung-Shin tell you that he'll be gone for a month? He's visiting his cousins in America right now...
From: Min Yoongi-oppa
Oh? I don't think he ever mentioned it to me... In that case, I can just get a ticket for you then. If you want. I know you're probably busy and pop concerts aren't really your thing anyways.
From: Kang Hyun-Ae
Of course I'll go! You're my best friend, Suga, I have to see you in concert at least once during this promotion!
From: Min Yoongi-oppa
Okay :). I can't visit you before the show so I'll send the tickets to your phone later. Do you want to have dinner with us after the concert? You can meet us backstage. Some of the others are bringing guests too, and since you're practically my sister, I think it's about time the members met you.
From: Kang Hyun-Ae
Okay! See you later then!!
"Hyun-Ae-noona! Stop texting in the storage room and actually help me work here, please!" Jihyun hollers at me playfully from behind the counter. "The shelves need restocking and I'm too lazy to do it alone. Or at all," he whines.
The music store has been pretty quiet lately, not too many sales. But maybe that's because most of the albums and whatnot we had in stock have sold out already. Or maybe it's because now that school is over, I work here on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the least busy days of the week for the store.
"Mianhae, Jihyun-dongsaeng," I tease, shoving a heavy box of new shipments into his arms. "I'm sorry for actually making you work today."
He pouts. "I still don't understand why Manager-hyung gave you a raise and not me. I work here almost everyday."
"Patience, young one," I tsk as I begin restocking the shelves with BTS' latest album, the second of their Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa series. I'm unbelievably proud of the success that my favorite boy band has been getting, which also means that my best friend has been busier than ever with promotions and work, especially since he's one of their main songwriters. So unfortunately, we haven't been able to spend much time together. Actually... I don't think I've seen him in person in nearly two years. However, Suga, Kyung-Shin, and I have been best friends since elementary school, so we've kept in touch pretty well over the years.
Except for the small fact that I don't think either Kyung-Shin or I have told him that we've been dating since the 11th grade. By the time our relationship started, Yoongi already left to become a BigHit trainee. Neither of us ever mentioned it because... well, actually I don't know. I knew that I would never be able to face Suga after telling him I started to develop feelings for Kyung-Shin, as he always teased I would. Well, he'll have to find out eventually. Yoongi has always been incredibly people-smart, so I'm sure I won't be able to keep it from him for long.
"Noona, you forgot one album in the box," Jihyun points out to me as I walk back to the counter.
"I know. I want to buy it," I admit sheepishly. I don't normally spend my money on things like this.
"Jinjja?! Seriously, noona? If you're going to spend money on an album, why would you waste it on BTS? I thought your music taste was better than that... Unless maybe you just think they're soooo handsome?" He rolls his eyes at me, laughing.
"Ya!" I scold him, playfully whacking at his arm. "They are extremely talented and hardworking boys, of course I support them."
"And good-looking," Jihyun adds helpfully, raising his eyebrows at me.
"Ya Park Jihyun!" I huff, although I can't hide my blush.
"You do find them good-looking!" He gives me a cute eye-smile.
I roll my eyes. "Because I have eyes, just like everyone else. But that's besides the point. Their songs are all really good and I can't wait to see them in concert tomorrow."
"YOU BOUGHT TICKETS TO SEE BTS' GOODBYE STAGE?!" Jihyun's eyes are nearly popping out of his head. His mouth opens to form a comically round 'O'.
"Well, no. A friend gave me a ticket to see them and I think it will be a cool experience," I say, somewhat defensively. I cross my arms, waiting for him to tease me.
Jihyun just laughs again. "That's really coincidental! My brother invited me to see them tomorrow too! Front-row ticket, but I don't care too much about watching Bangtan perform- especially that pabo Jimin-" another eye-roll, "and I can't make it. But I'll be meeting my brother for dinner so I don't think he's too disappointed."
"Your brother's an ARMY?!"
Jihyun scratches the back of his neck awkwardly. "I guess you could say that, yes."
Though Jihyun and I are close friends, we haven't known each other for very long, so I don't know too much about his family. I just know that his older brother is about my age and works in the music industry, so he's always busy and not around very much. His parents are restaurant owners, so after Jihyun's shifts at the music store, he helps them there. Other than that, I never pried too much, and neither did he in asking about mine.
"That's cool! But why do you dislike Bangtan so much?... And what's wrong with Jimin?" I add, slipping the album into my purse as I finish paying. Even though one of my best friends is in that band, I'm not that up to date with the goings on in the Kpop world. "Maybe it's just something the older generation likes now," I tease with a wink.
Jihyun smirks. "I don't dislike them, I just don't enjoy watching them. As for Jimin... aish that hyung is unbearable. Can't stand him. Anyways..." Jihyun trails off and pokes my arm hard. "Noona, you're barely two years older than me. I would hardly call that a generation gap."
I laugh and ruffle his hair, making him look like an annoyed baby bird. "Cute '97 liner!"
I actually don't really mind if Jihyun calls me 'noona' or not. We're not really formal around each other anymore, and I'm the oldest of three siblings and I'm also a tutor. Plenty of students call me noona, so it's kind of refreshing to not be treated like an elder with lots of responsibilities and wisdom at the ripe age of nineteen. He used to call me that mockingly, but began to show a little (not much) more respect after I got accepted into Seoul University.
"Ya," he whines playfully. "Leave me alone. I think your shift is over now, you can go."
I pout mockingly. "So soon? Well, have fun with your brother tomorrow then."
"Have fun watching those boys prance around in ridiculously tight leather pants!" He quirks his eyebrows at me.
I turn away so he can't see my flushed cheeks. "Annyeong, dongsaeng-ah."
