Selene above!

Warning: mention of rape

Chapter five

This was my fourth month at the Military Academy and how should I say this... well, it had kind of become my home. And that is something big for me. I haven't ever had a home. Never had a place to call such.

Here, I felt alive. I had friends, mostly villagers, but even a few descendants that I had come to like. And the seven of us usually worked together when we had to make teams and made our homework together. Thank God, because I really sucked at politics. Especially since I had made fun of our teacher, Mr. Marshall.

Jared was my best friend, with Selene – a really nice descendant girl – a close second. After all, I had to get my gossip from somewhere.

We had formed a group, the seven of us. Me, Jared, Kenneth and Travis being the villagers and Selene, Marcus and Kevin the descendants. They were the ones who showed me that not all descendants were bad, but we never talked about our past lives to each other. That was forbidden territory. But we had fun together. At least, when we weren't sleeping.

It was a good deal really. They helped us with history and politics and those kind of subjects, and we helped them at physical subjects.

I really liked it here.

I was making my tactics homework while Mr. Rhodes, my psychologist, asked me questions. I was growing increasingly irritated. Because of his nasal voice I couldn't concentrate on my homework and I really wanted to have it done.

Plus, I already was in a bad mood.

Thorn had almost beaten me at martial arts today. Almost. And I couldn't accept that. He was growing better and better. He was taller and heavier than me, at least fifteen centimeters and fifteen kilos. And he was stronger. It pained me to admit but he had gained a whole load of muscles these last few months. While I was lean by nature and couldn't grow that much muscle, he could. For guy standards he was still lean, unlike Jared, who had turned into a friggin' mountain. But he was still stronger than me. Argh.

It had been pure luck that I had won. I needed a good strategy and quick, otherwise he was going to beat me. And I absolutely didn't want to forgive him for his stupidity. God, was I glad I hadn't promised anything else.

Eager Beaver had also started to unnerve me again. She had been leaving me alone for the last few weeks, but now she was starting again. Making snide remarks at me and sweet talking herself better notes from Marshall and Brown. The only two teachers who liked her, really.

She was growing desperate. She wanted to end top graduate. And it wasn't working. Desperate people are the most dangerous, they will do anything to get what they want. And I knew it wouldn't take long before she would start doing stupid things.

'Miss Rayan would you please answer at least one question?' Mr. Rhodes said, growing angry, just like he usually did at this point.

'Shut up,' I said, 'I'm working.'

'C-9!' he yelled.

'My head already hurts, don't make it worse,' I warned him.

'And that is enough!' he screamed. Well, that was a first. 'You will answer the goddamn question if I have to pull out if you physically!' His fist came down with a loud bang on the desk and my laptop almost fell on the ground. I barely caught it and I stood up, just as angry as he was.
