Young and Beautiful Demons

Chapter 3

Alyssa's POV

I was awakened by a loud distant boom. I shot up from my seat and began to frantically look around. Nobody else was awake, I got out of the car and looked behind us only to see a large fireball in the distant where our town used to be.

I quickly hurried to the truck where the boys were sleeping and begin to bang on the window. The first to wake up is Skylar he see's my horror filled eyes and immediately knows that something is wrong. He turns to wake up the other two as I head back to the car and wake Elizabeth and Ray.

"We got to move." I speak quickly. Without any questions asked, Elizabeth starts the car and begins to drive with Nick right behind us.

"What's going on?" Ray asks

"Look's like Alyssa was right" Elizabeth mutters

"It doesn't matter if I was right or not all that matters now is the fact that we need to get somewhere safe." I say

"Where are we going?" Ray asks

"I have no idea" I admit. It stayed quiet for the rest of the car ride tension filling the vehicle. We finally saw an abandoned vehicle of some sort rolled over on its side.

"Alyssa, what is that?" Ray questions

"It looks like people who weren't as lucky as us. Hopefully it was the crash that killed them" I say

We gradually come to a stop beside the abandoned car. We all exit our vehicles and meet up right next to the tipped over car.

"I'm running on fumes." Nick points out

"You two go stiffen the gas." I instruct as Nick and Justin begin to stiffen the gas. "Elizabeth join them and look for supplies in the car." she does as she is told. "Skylar and Ray come with me" I tell the remaining two boys.

"Where are we going?" they ask in unison

"I saw a shack up this road" I say solemnly

As we are heading up the road I spotted a bunny and acting on instinct I shot a bolt at it killing it instantly.

"Looks like we have some supper tonight." Skylar wooed walking over to the rabbit and picking it up.

"Does anybody know how to skin a rabbit?" I ask

"I can" Skylar bragged holding the rabbit in the air

"Well then get to work" I instruct

"So, who's going with you up to the shack then?" Skylar asks with a concerned tone in his voice

"I'll take Ray" I reply patting him on the back

We head in opposite directions and as we reached the shack and we heard stumbling and moaning coming from inside the worn down shack.  We heard the rotten wood crack as the biter broke through mildewed plaster. I let out a slight shriek as I stumbled backwards and fell on the ground. Before I knew it, Ray stabbed the biter right through his eye. I look up at him in shock.

"No need to thank me" he jokes as he extends his hand out to me.

Realizing my mistake I managed to mutter out "thanks"  as I took his hand.

"Let's take a look shall we?" he chuckles as he pushes through the door. I follow close behind him with the slight fear that something else would pop out.

I've taken the scenery before me. Examined the gas cans "It doesn't look like there's any holes in them."

"Should we take them?" Ray asks

"I don't see why not, we should take these pots and pans too" I say as I reach up to grab one of the pots. I couldn't quite reach it so I used the bottom cupboard as a step stool. Big mistake if I do say so myself. The wood gave out causing everything on the shelf to tumble atop of me. I once again found myself on the ground, but this time with a really sharp stinging pain on my back.

"Alyssa!" I hear Ray shout. As he removes the pot and pans off of me his eyes begin to become very wide. "Alyssa, there is a plank of wood attached to your back."

"Then get it off" I say simply. I turn to start pulling it out as I feel a strong pinch making me wince.

"No, Alyssa stop. It's nailed to your back. We have to get you back to the others and see if they found any medical supplies, because if I pull it out right now it could get infected."

I just simply nod and follow him down the trail that leads to the others. Skylar is the first to see me.

"What the hell happened up there, I heard a crash an- WHY ARE YOU LIMPING!" His voice gradually increases.

I simply turn, showing him the wood nailed to my back.

"Why didn't you take it out?" He asked reaching for it.

Ray slapped his had away from it. "Because if its not properly treated it could get infected."

"Well then what are we waiting for?" Skylar says, taking my arm and leading me towards Elizabeth.

"Hey Liz? Did you happen to find any medical stuff in the car?" Skylar speaks before Ray gets a chance to. I can tell that he is starting to get irritated.

"Yeah why?" Liz asks eying the boys.

"Alyssakindahasapieceofwoodnailedtoherside." Ray mumbles quickly.

"What?" Liz asks, eyeing him.

"Alyssa kinda has a piece of wood nailed to her side." Skylar translate, putting a protective arm around me.

"And I need to pull it out." Ray says, pulling me out of Skylar's protective grip.

"Or I can, because I doubt she wants you to do it?" Skylar sourly says.

"Why do you say that?" Ray questions him.

"Because you're the dumbass that let it happen to her." Skylar replies back.

"I would watch what you say!"

"No...Dumbass is what I meant."

I suddenly feel the pain grow more intensely as the nail is ripped out of my back.

"There, I did it, so quit your bitching!" Liz spits as she throws the wood at them and walks away.

"I think I can clean myself up." I say annoyed. "You two should go back to the shack and get the stuff I dropped."
