Liz's POV
We're these two retards really fighting over who was going to pull the plank of wood out of Alyssa's back? She was obviously in pain, but their egos were getting in the way. I swear if they didn't quit I was going to hit them both upside their pretty little faces with the stupid piece of wood. The constant arguing kept going and it gave us no hint that it would end soon so I did what I had to do. Without any warning I yanked the piece of wood out of her back and threw it at the boys, informing them that I had taken care of it. The frustration was killing me I had to get some air of my own so I ended up walking away from the group. Far enough that if something were to come out they'd make it in time, but far enough that I was alone. I brought my machete with me just for saftey purposes.
I found a little creek alongside the path I was walking on, I sat down next to it and began to admire the scene before me. Flashbacks to when we were inside the school just having a wonderful time enjoying everybodys company popped into my mind. Joking around with one another, talking about our future, and just being happy. It's hard to believe that this was just yesterday, so much can happy in so little time. I never really appreciated what I had until today, this moment right infront of me. My mind transitioned to thoughts of my family. Would I ever see them again? Are they alive or dead? Are they one of them? Tears began to form in my eyes. I tried to wipe them away, but they just continued to come out of me. I knew I had to be strong. I couldn't help it though, I wrapped my arms around my legs and began to sob into my legs.
I felt a hand begin to rub my back softly as a voice began to shh me. I didn't even have to look up I knew exactly who it was.
“It's going to be okay Liz.” Nick said in a soft tone.
“You don't know that Nick” I said with a shaky voice
“You're right I don't know that, but I can promise you that I'll do absolutely anything in my ability that everything remains somewhat okay.” he says as he wraps his arms around me.
“Nick, what about everybody else?”
“What do you mean?”
“Our families, our other friends, everybody else..”
“Right now we are a family Liz, we are all we have left. I can't say that our familes and the rest of our friends are alive because I don't know that for a fact, but there could be a posibility. You can't look back for them though, you have to push forward Liz.”
Those words were pretty much a slap to the face, he pretty much implied the fact that everybody was dead. They couldn't be dead though.. Nobody deserves to die in such a horrid way. But if they are dead I hope that they didn't die a gruesome death.
More tears escaped my eyes as Nick held me in his arms and continued to comfort. My sobs were becoming more and more silent as the darkness was overwhelming me. I didn't sleep much the night before with the constant fear that something or someone would come and hurt us. But right now as I laid in his arms I felt that I would be safe and he wouldn't let anybody hurt me, so I let the darkness win as I drifted off to sleep.
I woke up to the smell of food and the warmth of a fire. I sat up and rubbed my eyes and let out a big yawn.
“Well look who finally decided to wake up” Ray said
“It's because she smelled the food cooking” Alyssa joked
I rolled my eyes at their comments, but they were right I woke up to the smell of food. I looked at what Skylar was moving around in the fire it kinda looked like chicken, but I knew deep down in my gut that whatever that was it was no where near a chicken.
