Alyssa's POV

I can't sleep. As much as I want to, I know I can't. Its impossible for me to. With everything that is going on right now, someone needs to be a look out. The last thing we need is for a random herd of biters to catch us while we are sleeping.

I get on top of the car. I look at everyone's tents. I hope that we can find a more permanent place to stay. A place that is safe. I know that is a lot to ask for at a time like this. Hell, one day without any encounters with those..Things, is a lot to ask for.

"Hey, can't sleep?" A voice startles me. I turn around to see Ray standing there, I was still irritated with him and Skylar's fight about who would pull the nail out of my back. I was happy that Elizabeth finally pulled it out.

"Nah, to much to think about right now. Besides, we need someone to look out." I sigh. I admit that I am tired but I know that sleep would never come to me.

"You've done so much for us already Alyssa, You deserve some rest. You need it, especially after getting a nail through your back." He says. He sits down and motion for me to sit next to him. I am hesitant, but I eventually do. We sit there in silence for a while, just watching the trees rustle in the wind. I began to shiver slightly.

"You cold?" Ray asks?

"Nothing that I can't handle" I reply back. I feel his arms snake around me and pull me closer. For a minute, I feel like everything will be okay and that its safe. Then I snap out of it. We would never be completely safe.

"You don't have to do that around me." He whispers.

"What?" I ask.

"Keep up that 'tough girl' act. I know that you are just as scared as the rest of us." He says as he smooth's my hair.

I feel tears start to spill out of my eyes. I try to stop them, but its like a dam broke and the water just keeps coming and coming. He was right, I was terrified. I was probably more terrified than any of them. I knew that they all trusted me with their lives. Nick, Elizabeth, Justin, Ray, Skylar. Every single one of them.

"It's alright to be afraid Alyssa" Ray rubs my back.

"No it's not. Fear clouds judgment. If we are going to get through this, then I need to man up." I say. I feel Ray's hand on my cheek and turns my face to his. I can feel his warm breath, but I don't dare look up. I feel him getting closer and I flinch away.

"What?" He asks.

"We can't do this. It will just cause problems." I reply. I run my fingers through my hair. As much as I wanted to kiss him, I couldn't. I hear him get up, irritated. I turn back to him and see him walking away. Great.

I hear a rustle come from the trees behind me. A lone biter emerges from the bushes. I look at her for a minute. She use to be just like me. She looked like a middle aged woman. I see something reflect off her finger. A ring. She was married and probably had children. She catches my scent and runs towards me. Swiftly, I stab her right through the head. I feel bad. I know that I shouldn't, but there was something about this woman that made me sad. Maybe it was the fact that her hair was done up nicely, as though she was going out on a date with her husband.

"She was a biter Alyssa" Skylar says, as if reading my mind.

"She use to be one of us." I sigh. I turn to see him standing behind me.

"She died, and came back to life, She was not one of us." Skylar states. He puts a blanket around my shoulders and leads me to the trunk of the car. We sit on the trunk.

"Its a good thing you were keeping watch, or that biter might of gotten to one of the rest. Or, you." Skylar states.

"Well lucky, I did." I say. I was terrified of what could've happened.
