Chapter 4

As it turns out I did in fact see him again, although not in the circumstances i would have liked. The next time i saw him was actually more heartbreaking than the first if you can believe it.

I was walking along my street after having told my parents the good news and receiving many congratulations from them i decided i needed some air and time to myself to which they readily agreed with a warning to be back no later than  nine pm on the dot. I had only been walking for a short 10 minutes when I walked past a house that seemed to be in the middle of a domestic war to end all domestic wars. There was shouting and crashing from inside and faintly i could hear crying from inside. Just as I decide it's none of my business and i turn to walk back the way I came, the front door opens and out tumbles the boy from the center earlier today.

"Get out, and stay out! You fox, i can't believe you have the nerve to come back to this house with a nature like that" A man from the door practically hisses at the boy before throwing a small rucksack at him and slamming the door behind him.

I rush over to try and help the boy up but he pushes my hand away. "You heard what the old git said, so you don't have to pretend to help. You know I'm a fox thanks to the douche blurting it to the world, so you can just carry on with your life as though this had never happened as you want to do." The boy grits out trying to play it off as though it hadn't affected him, but the tear tracks running down his cheeks tell a different story altogether. For the first time i get a good look at his face, and it takes my breath away. His features are beautifully defined almost as though sculpted by Aphrodite herself and his eyes are the most beautiful green i have ever seen, as though someone had captured the green of the amazon and locked it in his eyes. The only setback was the split lip and rapidly forming black eye that i can only guess came from his father.

"Oh please, not everyone is a monster." I respond seeing his dejected look. "So what do you plan to do now? Cause I don't care at all that your Scarv is a fox alright, I want to help."

"Honestly I wish I had a plan, but i was hoping against hope that my father wouldn't do what i expected him to do. But alas here I am."  By the end he was almost in full blown sobs. There was only one thing to do.

I wrapped my arms round him tight (totally not appreciating the slender but muscled frame at the same time) and shushed him as best I could until he calmed down. As soon as i started the boy froze, but gradually relaxed when he realized i meant no harm and was only comforting him. Eventually his sobs dyed down, and he wiped away the tears.

"Well look at me, crying like a girl, no offence." he said apologetically.

"Meh none taken, my Scarv says i can take care of myself. I'm  a wolf" I say rather boastfully.

"Not to burst your bubble, but aren't canines meant to be a little dimwitted" He snorted back, with a grin creeping back onto his face, that is before grimacing as it pulled on his damaged lip.

"Hey listen if you don't have any plan or anywhere to go, I'm sure my parents wouldn't mind you staying there for a bit. provided you don't steal all our snacks or you know try kill us in our sleep." I chuckle.

"Well i cant promise about the snacks but i solemnly swear no murder shall be attempted during my stay. But are you sure your parents will be cool with this, I mean we have only just met and well my Scarv is a fox, so I'm not making a very good first impression."He said raising an eyebrow at me quizzically.

"Oh please, my mums Scarv is an elephant - I mean you don't get more maternal that that, and my Dad's is a Scarv is a penguin. Yeah, I'm pretty sure they aren't gonna mind. The only problem could be my brother but I'm sure you'll win him over with your charming sense of humor - which is surprisingly like his now that i think about it."

"Alirght then, my life is in your hands .... wait what is your name? I'm Nico by the way, short for Nicolas but call me that and I may just be forced to kill you generous offer or not." He drawled.

"Of course, where are my manners. I'm Maddie and its nice to meet you Nico. Now come on lets get back so we can clean up those wounds."

with that we started the journey back to mine at a moderately slow pace with Nico limping along beside me, his pack slung over his shoulder. I have to hand it to him, i will always respect that he had the courage no to look back once for the entire trip.
