Warrior Cats #1: The Battle of Thorns

Chapter Seven

Lionpaw yawned. Morning sun rays filtered into the small den. Leafpaw nudged him gently on the shoulder.

"Wake up, sleepy head!" She meowed playfully. "You don't want to be late to your first practice with HawkPelt." Lionpaw laughed and stood slowly, flexing his claws in the soft earth.

"HawkPelt wants me up this early every sunrise?" He muttered, but kept his insights positive.

Leafpaw looked back at Lionpaw as they entered the clearing. "You don't seem like a normal rogue. Most of them wouldn't have been so willing to join a clan." She mewed. Lionpaw shrugged, he didn't really want to talk about his family at the moment. Leafpaw took the hint and padded ahead.

HawkPelt was sharing a thrush with DawnLight when he spotted Lionpaw wandering around the fresh-kill pile. "Looks like Leafpaw's taking good care of Lionpaw. It's good to know he has someone to relate to." He meowed. DawnLight nodded.

"I'm surprised Stonestar let him join with such short notice." She replied. HawkPelt stood and stretched his back legs.

"I better go show him around, DawnLight. Maybe we can go for a walk later." He mewed. DawnLight nodded and finished the thrush, brushing against his pelt before padding off towards the warriors den.

Lionpaw bowed his head towards HawkPelt as he approached, flicking his tail excitedly. HawkPelt pointed his tail towards the camp entrance.

"Let's show you the territory." He mewed.

Sky sighed as she watched Birdclaw and SilverStream sleep in their beds of moss. She couldn't bare thinking of another sunrise without her brother. Quietly, she crept out of the den.

An owl hooted over her head, sending chills rolling down her spine. She had last seen him hunting with SilverStream in the small clearing by the old fox den. If anything, she knew that was the closest Birdclaw would let them get to clan territory. Surely Lion hadn't chosen to be in a clan.....
