I sat alone in the corner of the common house. Everyone was talking amongst themselves and eating. Today's training was the first time we used the maneuvering gear harnesses. I was a natural, I didn't even wobble a bit. A few kids fell flat on their face and I had to stop myself from laughing.
"Hey you!" A boy said walking up to me. "What's with your eye, freak?" I mentally sighed in frustration.
"I dunno. What's wrong wit yer face?!" I snapped back, my accent breaking through since I was caught off guard.
"Ha! You even talk funny!" He said sneering. "I'm gonna be the best in the group so done even try!"
"Keep dreaming." I said calmly. The boys face twisted with anger. He threw a left hook at my face only for it to be blocked by my forearm. I grabbed his wrist and twisted his arm behind his back. I threw him into the table which smashed underneath him. I walked towards the door, the crowd of people splitting in my wake. "Here's a tip tough guy, don't mess with me."
I got back to my bunk and stared up at the ceiling. Everyday some asshole would ask me about my eye. Hopefully what I just did will teach them to leave me alone. Suddenly a face appeared from the side of my bunk. "Hi!" A girl with black hair and blue eyes said waving at me.
"What do you want?" I said. No one ever talked my me willingly, except Jasper. But he doesn't count since we've been friends since forever.
"I wanted to be your friend!" She said climbing up and sitting on my bed. "My names Luna!"
"Ok?!" I said confused no one ever wanted to be my friend.
"Your Blair, right? I heard about how you beat up Simon earlier, that was awesome!" She squeaked. "So you wanna be friends?"
"S-Sure I guess." I stuttered. She squealed with glee before climbing down and running to the other girls. They started whispering and pointing at me so I went back to starring at the ceiling. Eventually I drifted off to sleep.
Five years later: age 18
"Hey Blair you ready for patrol were leaving soon!" Jasper yelled to me.
"Yep I'll be right there!" I yelled back. I was reloading my blades and gas canisters to prepare for my scouting mission.
"About time you showed up!" Luna said laughing. "Miss 'graduated top of her class'! You're good at everything except being on time."
"Yeah yeah, let's get to the gate before we get into more trouble."
"You three took your time." One of the other survey corp soldiers said. There were only four of us going out today. We shrugged off the comment an got ready to leave. Suddenly a Garrison soldier started yelling.
"TITANS ARE ATTACKING!!!!" Before anything we could say anything, one Titan smashed through the open gate.
"Scatter!!" I yelled all four of us got high ground using our maneuvering gear. Titans were pouring into the break in the gate.
I shot my gear at a building and swung up into the air. I sliced open the nape of the Titans neck splattering blood everywhere. The moment my feet touched roof I shot off to another Titan. Everyone one was fighting them. After killing my second I dropped down to the street to get my bearings. Behind me a Titan was sprinting full speed in my direction. I shot my gear strait across to the other side of the street to get out of the way. My first mistake. I was about to pull myself across when another Titan came running, entangling my gear with its foot. My body jerked violently as I was dragged down the stone road.
"HELP!" I yelled. The Titan dragging me bent down and picked up a civilian and sprinted back towards the gate. Jasper and Luna were desperately trying to catch up with the Titan to help me but the Titan was to fast for them.
I furiously clawed at the belts connecting me to my gear but something got jammed and they wouldn't come loose. There was no way to safely cut myself out of my gear either, unless I wanted to loose a limb in the process. Before I knew it the Titan had run out of the wall and back into the open fields. I saw my friends watching in horror as I was dragged away to my inevitable death.
*Jasper's POV*
I watched helplessly as Blair was dragged into the Titan infested wild. Luna screamed ad began crying next to me. "My god ..." One Garrison soldier said. "What a way to go."
"She'll find a way to live." I said. I got strange looks from everyone around me. "She's too stubborn to die like that." Luna and I walked back to the headquarters. Today's mission would have to be rescheduled.
Four days later
The reality of Blair's death was beginning to sink in. There was no way she would last this long out there. The worst part is that while she was being dragged all of her extra blades fell out and she only had the gas in her gear left. Luna and I have been granted some time to grieve. It's rare for the survey corps to do this, but everyone was shaken by her sudden and horrific disappearance.
It must of been awful knowing you were about to die. The suspense of being dragged, for who knows how long , by a creature that would no doubt eat you the moment it noticed you. I can imaging her screaming out there, where no one can hear you or help you.
"Ok you two if you don't want to go on missions you're being assigned on gate guard duty with the garrison unit." Our general said to us. Luna and I saluted him and ran off in the direction of the gate.
"Welcome aboard kids!" Jason, the commander of the unit said to us. "All you gotta do is watch for anything suspicious or dangerous."
A few hours had gone by with nothing too out of the ordinary. A few 10 meter Titans lumbering around dumbly and the occasional deer was all we saw. Suddenly Luna stood up and looked out into the open land. "Do you see that?!" I looked to where she was pointing and squinted my eyes.
"What the hell?" I said. A 15 meter Titan was running towards the gate, with no arms.
