Lucas's POV:

Just after Will came back from the upside down, Dustin and I spent an entire month renovating Castle Byers. We painted, decorated and made the place more cheerful, after the horrible week that Will had spent in that place. We just wanted him to feel safe again.

Mike would have helped, but he's too busy moping about Eleven. Yeah, we get it, he liked her. But he knew her for a WEEK. He's still acting all depressed now, and it's been a whole year! Dustin and Will are still playing the "Eleven is alive" game, but im not stupid. She's DEAD, and there's nothing we can do now.

I pulled up to Castle Byers, and could already hear Mike trying to talk Will through the "rescue plan" he's made to try and find the dead girl. Usually I would let Mike know how I really feel about all this, but since it's the one year anniversary I decided to join in one last time, for my friend.

"We need torches. And our radios. And food, if we want this to work. We'll head out after lunch, to the side of the forest near Will's house, where we found her that night in the rain. We'll find her, Mike."

I'm sick of this stupid game. But Mike needs us, especially today...

Dustin's POV:

It was quite late in the day by the time we got all of the supplies ready to try and hunt down Eleven. I'm not stupid, and i know there's no chance we'll find anything, but I'm just so worried about Mike at the moment. He was starting to get better, a few months ago. But then he started having these dreams, really vivid and creepy dreams about Eleven which he's adamant are real. They've really knocked him backwards; it's like he's going crazy.

I know we should tell someone, Mrs Wheeler or Hopper, but I can't bring myself to sell out my best friend like that. Maybe that's why I'm still playing this crumby game, because I'm hoping one day he'll realise the truth. El is gone. I don't know if she's dead or not, but the truth is that it's been a whole year. If she wanted to come back, she would have by now.

We rode out to the deeper part of the woods, much closer to Will's house. It was cold, and the gnarled branches on the thick trees seemed to be pointing, telling us to turn around and go back. But we pushed on, always looking for the smallest clue or track.

It got dark quickly, and soon we were in the pitch black thickness of the woods. Will was trembling, and I don't blame him. A crisp coldness had swept over the forest, and my stomach started to twist and turn into hundreds of knots. I could almost hear the heartbeats of the others, and panic started to take over me.

"This isn't right, guys. We need to go, NOW!" I yelled, and we all switched into action. We were running, as fast as possible. I could see the end of the woods.

But not before every torch started flickering...
