AUTHORS NOTE: Sorry for so much back story, but don't worry the main plot kicks in soon also meeting some familiar people 😉

Ash jolted out of his sleep. Something was wrong , very wrong. pikachu,Greninja and lucario all sensed what ash did. Ash could hear boots running up the stairs and they didn't sound familiar. Ash panicked for a Second and composed himself
'Greninja use a screen of water to create an illusion'Ash whispered
Just then two men burst into the room waving submachine guns
'Are you sure he's here' one of the assailants yelled angrily
'Fuck... the boss must have given us the wrong place' the other yelled in frustration. Ash watched as they left he waited a good thirty minutes
'Okay I think we're safe for now' Ash sighed it felt like his heart was gonna burst out of his chest.
'Fucking hell' Greninja said panting so hard he was barely about to breath as the water illusion dissipated.
'Stay here I'm only taking pikachu with me' Ash said still whispering
'But mas-'
'No Greninja' Ash said smiling at the two 'we'll be fine right buddy'
'Pika Pi' he fist pumped confidently
Ash and pikachu walked down the stairs stealthily, as Ash made his way into the living room as cautiously possible he seen something he wished he could unsee immediately...

Ash sat in the back of the ambulance. His mother and stepsisters corpses less then two feet away with blankets on top
Ash's hands clawed into the sides of his head tears cascading onto the ground
Ash watched his mom and stepsisters get wheeled off on a trolley. He realised this was going to be his final memory of the two, bulging blankets lit by flashing blue lights. Ash couldn't control his tears as pikachu tried to comfort him
I didn't feel like living anymore as he collapsed onto the ground

Ash woke up the next morning in a strange bed with sheets that smelled of disinfectant. He had no idea where he was. The last thing he remembered was a nurse giving him a sleeping pill and walking towards a car with his head weighting a million tons
He had his clothes on, but his Jordan's were on the floor.
He got out of the bed. The pill had made him dull, his jaw felt stiff and there was a weird ache in his forehead. The room was bright even though the curtains were closed. Ash slid a door and found a shower and toilet. Ash splashed water on his face. He felt dead inside. Everything felt so so unreal it was like sitting in front of a television.

Ash peeked out the window. Tons of kids were running around. He remembered that one of his moms favourite threats was to stick him in a home if he didn't behave.

A buzzer sounded when Ash left the room a care worker came out of her office and offered him her hand.
Ash shook it, a bit stunned by her purple hair and the metal work hanging off each ear
'Hello, Ash, I'm Rachel. Welcome to Kanto house. How are you? Ash shrugged.
'Im really sorry about what happened to your family.'
'Don't be it wasn't your fault' Ash said as he stared at the ground
'Sorry.'

'I'll give you the tour, then you can have some breakfast. You hungry?'

'A bit,' Ash said

'Listen, Ash' Rachel said, as she walked. 'This place is a dump and I know your life seems horrible now, but there are lots of good people here to help you.'

'Right,' Ash said

'Our luxury spa,' said Rachel.

She pointed out of the window at a paddling pool filled with rainwater and cigarette ends. Ash smiled a bit. Rachel seemed nice, even though she probably used the same lines on every freak that ended up here.

'State of the art sports complex. Strictly out of bounds until homework is finished.'

They walked through a room with a dart board and two pool tables. The green felt was stuck down with carpet tape and there was an umbrella stand filled with tipless and split cues.

'All the rooms are upstairs. Boys first floor, girls second. The baths and showers are down here,' Rachel continued. 'We usually have trouble getting you lads into them.'

'My room has a shower in it,' Ash  said.

'That room's the reception for new arrivals. You only get one night in there.'

They reached the dining room. There were a couple of dozen kids, mostly in school uniform. Rachel pointed everything out.

'Cutlery there, hot food at the bar, cereal and fruit juice. Make your own toast if you want it.'

'Cool,' Ash said

He didn't feel cool. The room full of strange, noisy kids was intimidating.

'When you've eaten, see me in my office.'

Ash's got some Frosties and sat on his own. The other kids ignored him. New arrivals were obviously nothing unusual.

Rachel was on the phone. Her desk was stacked with papers and folders. A cigarette burned in an ashtray. Rachel put the phone down and took a puff. She saw Ash glance at the No Smoking sign.

'If they sack me they'll be six staff short,' she said. 'Do you want a cigarette?'

Ash was shocked to be offered a cigarette by an adult.

'I don't smoke.'

'Good,' Rachel said. 'They give you a cancer, but we'd rather give them to you than have you stealing them from shops. Shift my junk, make yourself comfortable.'

Ash moved a pile from the chair with the least stuff on it and sat down.

'How do you feel, Ash?'

'I think the sleeping pill they gave me is making me groggy.'

'That'll wear off. I really mean how do you feel about what happened to your mom and sister'

Ash looked her with a blank stare

'The important thing is not to keep it to yourself. We'll schedule some time with a counsellor, but you can chat to any of us house parents in the meantime. Even if it's three in

'What happens to me?' Ash asked.

'I don't believe you have any relatives.'

'Only my stepdad. I call him Uncle Ron.'

'The police found him last night.'

'They probably had him in a cell,' Ash said.

Rachel smiled. 'I sensed that the two of you don't get on when I spoke to him last night.'

'No I hate him' Ash said 'probably had something to do with what happened aswell'

'Now let's not go jumping to conclusions Ash'

Ash suddenly begin to panic and Rachel immediately knew why
'Don't worry your Pokemon are safe there in your new room'

Ash felt so relieved that his Pokémon were okay, his Pokémon and him weren't blood related but  they felt more like family to him then his own
'Let's go see them shall we' Rachael smiled at him
Ash simply smiled back and followed her out the door.
