You looked longingly at the towering mountain that remained in sight of your home. The silvery caps that glittered at every sprinkle of moonlight, the rocks that jutted out and made shapes of amazing art, and it's peak looked down upon the city, like a guardian and daring any threat to come close.
None of that mattered.
To be honest, you loved the mountain, but it's natural beauty didn't woo you much. Hey, don't get it wrong, you thought it was gorgeous but there was another reason why you adored it so.
That man.
The red-eyed man.
Your long since seen friend.
You only knew him for less than a day, but he felt like a childhood friend.
You missed THIS FREAKING stranger-friend.
Your mind wondered when he might return, reminiscing about your latest encounter, which was what, 7 years ago.
~~
A basket in hand, you excitedly picked berries from their fresh stock, the farmers proudly watching you choose from their fresh selection. Curious, your (eye color) gaze wandered the market for a bit, and landed on a BEAUTIFUL Oran Berry.
It was perfectly rounded, and it's blue color was vibrant and pretty. No mold marks, no teeth marks, just laying there!
Happily, you skipped to the box it remained in. No one else has noticed its beauty.
Or so you thought.
You called out your (OMG IM SO SORRY I'm gonna choose your teams 0~0) Growlithe, and he leaped out, sniffing the air curiously. Then you bent down and showed him the berry, and he sniffed it, and panted with its tongue lolling out.
"Isn't it perfect?!" You mused, eyes sparkling. Your Growlithe nodded in agreement eagerly.
You had set it back down in the box and reached into your bag to pull out money to pay for it. Then as you took out your yen, your free hand reached for the berry as another gripped hold of it as well.
Surprised, as you realized the FREAKING BERRY WAS MOVING you whipped around to find a pale, porcelain skin hand holding the berry. Your hand lay on top.
You glanced at the hand's owner, and immediately melted.
Scarlet eyes met yours under a shaded hat, and a monotone face greeted your shocked one.
Yanking your hand away, you bowed down apologetically, "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry! I didn't know that you were going to purchase it! Here, you can have it. Sorry, again, good sir!" Your face heating up with embarrassment.
You turned around to leave with disappointment in your hand instead of a berry, but a strong hold grabbed your wrist. You, terrified out of your wits, turned back around. But the scarlet-eyed man's hand was holding the berry out to you.
He seemed to be gesturing you to take it.
You waved your hands panickedly, "no, no, sir, it's ok! You can have it!" But he only shook his head, shoved the berry into your basket and walked away.
Without a word.
Not a single one.
So you followed him. He was intriguing, and didn't seem dangerous. He sparked your interest as he headed to the base of Mt.Silver.
"Why are you going there?"
He turned around in mild surprise and cocked an eyebrow.
"So-sorry for following you, you're just interesting! Anyway, do... You live there?"
He nodded.
"Well, I'll see you around then!"
He nodded again.
"What's your name, again? I'm (name!)!" You said. He pointed to the red part of his shirt and his scarlet eyes. "Red? Red is your name?"
He nodded once more.
"Beautiful name! Red, be careful up there! Oh, and here," you took the perfect berry out of your basket and gently laid in his arms. You smiled, "Please take it. You need it more than I. Again, take care up there!"
And you grinned, spinning away and skipping back home, your Growlithe bounding beside you happily. Little did you know, you left the silent man with a tiny smile of gratitude.
~~~~
The memory left a lasting smile on your face. You Growlithe, now an Arcanine, padded down to sit beside you, and you raised a hand to pet it's thick and comfy fur. It growled in happiness and laid it's massive head on your lap.
"Think we'll see him again, Arcy?" The big Pokemon nodded, and closed its eyes to rest. You smiled and rested your hand on top of its head, and your head soon followed, dreaming about your next meeting with the man.
----
The rays of sun shone down the streets as people here and there in comfy coats bustled, getting what they need. The same berry market in its stronghold still stood, and nostalgia washing over you, you ran over.
The farmers, grown and old, looked down at you, remembering you from years ago. "Hello (name)!" They called as you passed them.
"Hello!" You replied cheerfully, and continued your stride. Then your eyes rested its gaze on something.
It was a chestnut-black haired man, a white shirt with a red collar on. Broad shoulders and tall. It had something in its hand.
You backed away, intimidated. And walked off. But footsteps followed yours and you sped up. Once the sound grew closer, you shrieked and called out your Arcanaine.
"ARCANINE, HELP!"
And he leapt out and growled menacingly. But they abruptly stopped, and panting replaced it. Terrified because this FREAKING MAN KILLED YOUR ARCANINE HOLY KRABBY. and you ran. Your woven basket clattered to the ground as you zoomed down the streets. Not a single person noticed this murderer chasing you.
And a VERY FAMILIAR strong hold gripped your arm. You gasped and spun around, ready to birch slap the chaser. But a panting Arcanine's eyes met yours, and your Arcanine sat beside it, his eyes sparkling as well. Confused, you looked up.
Scarlet eyes met yours under a shaded hat and a monotone face met your shocked one.
Except the face grew up, as did yours.
Red.
You screamed and jumped into his arms. "RED!"
Couples and people around awwed because shipping, and you were crying while laughing at the same time. Strong arms laced your waist as your hug was answered.
You grinned and let go, your dancing and teary eyes meeting his. "Oh my ARCEUS you're back! And you have an Arcanine!" You felt Red's arms slip away, as you walked to his Arcanine which was conversing with Arcy.
"Heya buddy! Nice to meet you," and you pet its nose. It growled in content.
Then a finger poked your arm.
You saw Red looking at you strangely. "Red?" You asked, head tilted in curiousity.
Then, before you knew it, a plump and perfect Oran berry was in your hands, and he was walking away,
AGAIN.
A grin plastered on his face and a surprised yet flustered expression yours, you chased him down the street.
"WAIT!"
